"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Jasper snarled. "Be a man! walk next to me and be upright!"
Agatha looked at Vivian in confused. She didn't know what Vivian was so scared of all of a sudden, and pulled Vivian by the sleeve to her left. The rest of the road ahead lay to the right, where Vivian's father was stopping people on the street. Jasper nodded in approval when he saw her next to him, "Ey, I see your girlfriend did something good for once."
"We're not together," Agatha shot back with a sore look.
"Praise the lord," Jasper commented before turning away. "May I have your oath on the side of that?"
Out of nowhere Agatha raised her hand and slapped him on the shoulder. Needless to say Jasper was stronger and shoved her backward. Agatha winced back in pain as Jasper peered at her through the slits in his eyes.
"That's what you get, dear sister."
"WHY YOU IMBEC-" she sowed her mouth shut and smiled at the mother who passed the trio, holding a baby boy by the arm. The mother frowned and pulled her child closer to her, eyeing Agatha alarmingly. Jasper chuckled next to her, waving at the young mom. Her eyes glittered with recognition as waved back, gushing.
"Can't wait to go to the next ball!" she blushed, walking away.
Agatha did something that made Jasper's charmingly look change to a scornful one.
"Don't do that." Jasper snapped.
"Do what?" she asked shockingly.
Jasper frowned.
"What?" she pressed. "What upon so many other things did I do to make you cross now!"
"You rolled your eyes at me."
Agatha rolled her eyes. "No I didn't."
"You just did!"
There was a pause between the pair.
"No I didn't"
"OH FOR THE LOVE OF GO-"
"Excuse me," Vivian's father rasped, coming toward them. His hair was messy and unkept. The belt on his pants barely able to hold his waist in comparison his belly that showed between the buttons of his white shirt. He had one the exact pantsuit Vivian was walking around in, except maybe a little cleaner. His brown eyes gazed upon all three of them, eventually settling on Vivian, who looked like the spitting boy image of his daughter.
This should've been obvious considering their talk a few days ago. But Sebastien was in denial and had short term memory, the fragments of conversation mattered nothing much to him. His mind dismissed all the possibilities. It couldn't be, it was impossible. Vivian was smart and beautiful. A girl like her would never actually do such a thing.
"my my, what happened to you?" Jasper sneered with obvious disgust.
Vivian frowned, remembering how much she hated the man now more than ever.
"My daughter, Vivian, has run away from home," he said solemnly.
"Vivian," Agatha gasped.
His tired eyes flickered to the ginger head. "Yes, have you seen her?"
Agatha shook her head timidly. "Sorry sir, I have not."
Mr. Martin wiped his eyes and stared vacantly through Vivian. "I can't find her. She's been missing for more than a day."
"Oh, I didn't realize..."
Oddly enough, in the midst of his words Jasper's expression changed and his eyes softened a little.
"My apologies Mr. Martin, but I haven't seen her."
Her father turned to her with hurt in his eyes, breaking Vivian with every breath he took. She felt guilty, so unbearably guilty. "How about you- have you seen her young man?"
Yes! I'm right here papa!
Vivian swallowed the lump in her throat and shook her head silently, not making a sound.
Mr. Martin let out a sigh, his eyes watering with despair. "Thank you," he muttered quietly, pulling away from them and walking toward the next group of people trailing behind them. Jasper glanced at the man whose life he'd ruined and turned away coldly, earning a death stare from Vivian. Vivian went back to the mansion in silence as the siblings quarreled all the way home.
"Say," Agatha said as a maid opened the large, white colored front doors. She turned to her brother with a hopeful look on her face, glancing over at Vivian with a sad smile. "About jobs-"
Jasper groaned. "You know nothing of a sort!"
"Not me! Mr. Smith" she pestered.
Jasper narrowed his eyes as the young man, whose face rose in shock. What did Agatha think she was doing now! Vivian thought, her body shuddered as Jasper stalked up to her with those dark eyes of his.
