"Oh dear!" Agatha let go of the little boy's hand and rushed over to Vivian, who was just barely hauling herself up by the palms. Vivian let out a groan as she got up with Agatha helping her by the arm. She stumbled to her balance.
"Oy!"
The cashier rushed around the counter and began picking up all the wrapped chocolate bars with his bare hands. He ignored her as he stacked them back on the shelves frantically. The tall man was vexed. "I'm sorry-" his sudden slap caught Vivian off guard. The cashier hit Vivian so hard her head turned and she crashed into the floor again, hitting herself by the head unconsciously. The sound of the slap so striking it made the little boy cry. "Beet a guy twice his size my arse," the tall man commented angrily. "This foozler is nothin' but a liar."
"Oh dear," Agatha gasped, reaching over in hopes to shake Vivian awake. "Was that really necessary? clearly it was an accident."
"The boy is a fool," the cashier said. "He needed a slap of reality. That's what I call it"
"Whatever for?" she pressed. "You don't even know the boy."
"I know that he is a hopeless skinny chum. With no money and no home and a poor family that can't afford to give him fitting clothes. I showed him a bit of kindness and this is what he gives me in return. Wasted chocolates all over the floor. No one messes with my chocolates!"
Jasper stared at the unconscious Vivian spiraled out on the floor in amusement. "Let's go," he muttered to Agatha, the little boy following suit behind him in shock. He silently turned to the cashier, "thank you for your kind service."
The cashier looked him up and down.
"You my dear man look quite muscular yourself. Would you happen to be interested in the storage unit? we have a new job opening, say, if you'd like to interview right now I'd-"
"No," Jasper cut in, keeping his formality. "Thank you"
The cashier man shrugged and walked off. "Suit yourself," he whistled as he planted himself behind the counter again. Agatha rolled her eyes and stared intently at Vivian's "manly" face.
Jasper grimaced. "What the hell are you doing hoovering over that foolish man."
"I don't know, but he looks familiar to me. I can't help but think I've met him before."
"Well isn't that redundant," Jasper sighed to himself. "Time to go."
The little boy whined, tugging Jasper by the pant leg. "But we didn't get any chocolate and that gentleman looks like he needs our help. Pleaseee cousin Jasper, he looks pretty bad!"
Jasper's eyes darkened once again. "No," he replied sternly. "I'm sorry but my word is final"
Agatha stood up and pulled him by his shoulder sleeve. "Archie is right Jasper, this young man is unconscious and if we just leave him here people will take advantage of this."
Jasper almost choked on his own laughter. "Are you kidding yourself? look at him, there's nothing to take advantage of!"
"We're taking him," she said stubbornly.
"Hell. No." he snarled. "I'm not taking a foozler into our family home. We never do that, do why do it now?"
Agatha frowned and crossed her arms. "Lucky for you I don't care what you have to say or ask. We are taking him in till we know he is alright. That is the right thing to do," she insisted. "If only mother was alive to see you right now, she'd be so disappointed in the way that you're acting."
Her words struck a hole in his heart that Jasper didn't even know he had. He gave a cold hard stare at Agatha before mumbling curses and reluctantly picking up Vivian in his arms. She wasn't heavy at all and much of the suit not did not fit her at the waist. "Blast! this man weighs as light as a woman!"
"Keep your comments to yourself," Agatha snapped.
"But what if this man is an actual woman?" he joked.
"Don't be ridiculous, women don't have hair up to their scalps like that. Now stop with the snarky comments and move along," she ordered, guiding Archie out the door with one arm.
"But what about my chocolates. We didn't get anywhere close to trying some other than talk to the cashier about it!" he whined in agony. "I want my chocolate!"
"Tomorrow we'll come back and get you double what you wanted," Agatha winked. "I promise"
Archie gasped in delight and skipped by her side. Jasper rolled his eyes and caught sight of a few people staring at him wearily. Pedestrians whispered into each others ears as he past by. It wasn't like Jasper carry random men in his arms across the street, much less aid the vulnerable. Much of the town was confused as they made their way back to their large country estate. When the maid's closed the large panels she quietly urged Archie to run along and see if the roses had bloomed.
"Who's that?" one of the maids asked.
"A nobody," Jasper replied.
Agatha frowned. "Please go with Archie in the garden to make sure he's not up to anything foolish."
"Yes ma'am."
Jasper waited patiently with Vivian dangling in his arms till Archie and the maids were out of sight. "Ugh, I'm never doing this again," Jasper muttered aloud as he leaned down to lay Vivian on the couch.
"No," Agatha said. "Not there."
Jasper straightened his back with a sour look on his face. "What?" he asked boldly.
"The second floor into one of the master bedroom," Agatha pointed upstairs. "I'll show you where myself because I don't trust you."
Jasper mumbled curses towards his sister under his breath as he carried Vivian's slumped body up the steps and into one of the first rooms. "There," Agatha pointed to a comfy spot on the bed where Jasper threw her carelessly. Vivian's head jerked back against a soft pillow, led by a soft groan.
"See," he gestured. "He's not unconscious. We did this all for nothing."
"Jasper!" she scowled. "You could break the man if you wanted too, stop it"
"Sounds to me a crush is brewing," Jasper replied snarkily. "Tell me, is this the man you admire from afar?"
Agatha pushed him away. "Your disgusting," she spat before slamming the door in his face.
