When Vivian woke up with a groaned and propped herself up on her arm. The cold floor felt plush under her elbow. She slowly opened her eyes into the light that poured through the large glass panels. Her blinked a couple times to adjust, sitting up on the bed in her suit. She felt strangely in a dream, was it a dream?
Vivian looked down and saw her pantsuit. Her hands flew to her head and felt her pricky scalp with her fingers. Vivian jumped out and of the mirror and saw her face. Her brown hair was cut to the root and one side of her cheek was a rosy sun burnt color. Her dull lips were straight and full, and her eyebrows lowered, making Vivian appear sad. She nervously fixed her tie and peered outside the window. There were land and trees as far as the eye could see. A carriage sat below her, near the familiar steps that entered the building.
The door creaked open and she stepped out carefully, slowly inching her way downstairs.
"There you are, boy," a heavy voice said behind her. Vivian whipped away to see Jasper with a front and his hand in his front pocket. His lips thinned in a straight line as he looked her up and down with annoyance.
"You were searching for me?" Vivian asked in surprise. That questions didn't seem to pair well with a man of Jasper's stature.
Jasper flickered his eyes to the opened door that led to the room she just emerged out of, "it's been a whole day since you've been in there."
Vivian pursed her lips awkwardly. "Oh, I'm sorry," she deepened her voice to give a more masculine effect one the last word. She made sure not to over exaggerate her tone, or else that'd be a little too obvious. Though, she felt quite stupid for doing it anyway.
"Thank you," he said, taking her off guard. Before Vivian could barely get a word out he cut her off rather rudely, "would you like to have some food before your departure. You must be quite hungry after hitting your head against all those chocolate bars."
Vivian sucked in her breath. At least he didn't expect anything.
She nodded slowly and followed him down the steps, never failing to eye the pictures once more. As they served as an reminder that Jasper hated her father and didn't care what happened to his family. Now that was cruel. Vivian wasn't usually one to get angry, but she could've sworn she felt some painful ping in her heart.
"Where's your sister?" Vivian asked once her shoe touched the marble floor. Truth be told, she didn't know how to exactly walk in her father's business shoes. They were too big for her to notice she'd trip.
"I-uff" he grunted when Vivian crashed head first into his back. When her nose hit his hard rock body pain split through her face.
"What in carnation?" Jasper moved away from the impact immediately, leaving her to fall on the floor. Vivian groaned and rolled over on her back. Obviously Jasper didn't like to be touched, let alone bumped into. "I think I have a heart beat in my nose," Vivian complained in a muffled voice as she held it. "A painful one."
"I've never seen such a foolish clutz in my life." He commented, noticing her shoes flew up a couple feet away from her.
"How did that happen?"
"What?" Vivian was too engulfed with pain to pay attention to anything else.
"The shoes!"
"What about the shoes?"
"They flew," he told her angrily. "Your dirty, grimy shoes scattered mud everywhere. My floors are dirty because of your filth! have you no decency young man? did they were teach you young manners at home? did they starve your sense of formality along with yourself? "
"I'm sorry I'm such a disappointment to bare, sir, I'll pick them up now," she said softly. Vivian tried her best to ignored all the hurtful words he was spitting at her. Sad to say it wasn't of much use. Vivian was highly sensitive. She stumbled back onto her feet, holding her injury to stop the pain from pulsing up her nose. Blood leaked onto her fingertips when she pulled her hand back to check. Vivian had already gotten a nose bleed. All because she couldn't keep her eyes on the ground.
This was not going to end well, and she knew it the moment Jasper kept scolding her on the cold marble. Vivian felt terrible. She should've never done this. She should've never tried to become something that she wasn't, that she'd never be. Jasper tapped his foot on the ground impatiently as she went over to pick up her father's large shoes.
When Vivian turned around her eyes were full of tears uncontrollably streaming down her face. Jasper looked at the young man in shock. "What the hell is wrong with you?" he demanded. "Why are you crying?"
Vivian's feelings of anguish spiraled out of control. She didn't know what to say, what would be something a logical, young man would say in this situation?
Do young men even cry?
Her eyes overfilled with tears in response.
"Jasper," Agatha appeared in the doorway with Archie at her side, his face smothered with chocolate. She looked Vivian, who's lips and cheek was smothered in blood.
"Oh dear, what happened to you?"
