Agatha stumbled out of bed in a hurry and to her worst nightmare saw Jasper at the end of the hall, gripping Vivian's collar firmly by the neck. Vivian gulped. Jasper turned toward the sound of her pants with a sly smile on his face.
"Good morning dear sister," he mused eerily. "What a pleasant surprise to you see you...forgot to stall me in my bedroom today I assume?"
Agatha breathed out in defeat. "So," she paused, looking at his silly face with guilt. "Maybe I wasn't being completely honest with you for the past two weeks."
Jasper smiled tighter, it was more frightening than the stern look on his face.
"You don't say.."
"It isn't what you think," Agatha said. "What did you expect me to do? sh-hE had nowhere else to go."
He frowned. "What do you mean he has no where else to go?"
Agatha frowned. "Didn't you hear him before? his family abandoned him before leaving him to fend for himself. He has no where to go"
Jasper glanced back at Vivian, who gave him a nervous smile in return. Jasper turned to Vivian. "You should've come to me on this matter instead of my sister." Her heart lodged in her throat when he turned his back on her for the thousandth time.
"What's wrong with sleeping outside?" he countered at Agatha, "obviously she's uninvited."
"No she's not, I invited her."
"Let's not forget who runs this home while father is away, hm?" he said.
Agatha crossed her arms. "Well what are you going to do, kick her out?"
Jasper barely turned to look at Vivian and barked at her to hurry up without giving Agatha a response. Vivian looked at Agatha nervously as she brushed her ginger hair out of her eyes in annoyance. "Ignore my brother, he has a mind of his own."
Vivian's eyes flickered to the open door where Jasper stood.
"Yeah, I can see that"
"Mr. Smith!" he barked at her once more. "A working man doesn't have all day!"
"Go!" Agatha whispered. "Before you anger the beast"
Vivian smiled nervously and rushed down the stairs and after him right before Jasper shut the door on her. They walked to work side by side, without a sound. The polluted air smothered the building as workers in nearby factories. Vivian stilled when she found her face on the poster board for missing people. It was the latest photo taken of her, taken as a kid. Ruby signed her name under it with a little note that was the address.
"You know... I didn't mean to be harsh on you earlier," Jasper said, not looking to his side. "You just surprised me, Mr. Smith. Surely you must understand that in order to be my partner I also have to trust you. That means asking me before...MOVING into my mansion. Is that clear?"
No response.
"Are you deaf?" Jasper turned to see Vivian had stopped by the poster board, seemingly entranced by a picture of a women.
"MR.SMITH!"
Still, Vivian appeared to be ignoring him.
Jasper grumbled cruses to himself.
"Are you deaf Mr. Smith? you better be deaf once I get there, or else it won't look so pretty!"
Vivian was too busy looking at her old face to realize Jasper stomping back toward her, quite angrily. "So, you're ignoring me all of a sudden?"
He narrowed his eyes and saw the poster board. A familiar brunette with dark eyes and long thick locks. Below it was the name, Vivian Martin, beloved daughter and sister. Jasper pursed his lips and snickered in amusement. "That's a shame," he muttered behind her. "She was a little pretty when she was younger, if I think back to it."
Vivian looked up at Jasper blankly. "You knew this girl?"
"Maybe, I used to see her around when she wouldn't notice."
His dark eyes flickered to Vivian intently, who's heart was pattering like a machine gun.
"Come to think of it..."
Vivian froze. In the blink of an eye Jasper slapped her on the side of her face; taking her completely off guard. "A little more fat on those cheeks of yours and you two might just look alike."
Vivian held her cheek in shock as Jasper clenched his jaw. "Now that I've knocked some sense into you. Let's get going, we have some work to do."
