University High (Yizhan Fanfiction)

Chapter 1: Friends

'Ringg ringg...' Xiaozhan picked up his phone as he got out of the bath. It was his sister Xiaoyanli. "Hi meimei what's up?" Xiaozhan answered as he picked up the phone.

"Ge don't forget tonight 7.30PM meet me at that new place. I'm bringing him to meet you." Yanli's voice echoed at the other end of the receiver, full of excitement. "Of course. I'll be there meimei. You really like this one huh?" Xiaozhan asked. Yanli giggled at the end of the line and said: "He's really sweet and caring. Please be nice ge.. for my sake." "Okay Li, I will see you tonight." Xiaozhan shrugged and smiled. "Okay bye." Yanli said and hung up.

It has been a while since the last time Yanli introduced her boyfriend. The previous one was 6 months ago, XiaoZhan did not like him and after a few weeks his hunched proved right as Yanli came to his apartment crying after she caught the bastard having an affair with another girl. Xiaozhan then took their longtime buddies JiangCheng and Huaisang and the three of them beat the guy up. 'Hopefully this time she would find someone better' Zhan thought.

The restaurant & bar sat against the night city over looking the harbour. It was a place that Huaisang could not stop talking about. ''Good food, good atmosphere. They have the best seafood pasta in town." Huaisang would say. Huaisang worked at a publishing house and is heading the traveling and food section so he always knew where to eat and would get all the food vouchers for them.

Xiaozhan arrived with Jiangcheng since they had worked together in the same company. Both had left their previous companies and started this new law firm since about 3 years ago. It was not an easy task but it was always their dream to work together since they were best buddies at law school almost a decade ago. "Drive faster dude. We're gonna be late." JiangCheng said while his hand twitching on his phone."Traffic is so bad at this time and Huaisang picked such a crowded place." Xiaozhan said as he honked at a vehicle that just cut in front of him. "I told you we should leave earlier." Jiangcheng grunted. "Hey over there quick, I see a car leaving." JiangCheng said. "Wow you eagle eyes. Good one." Xiaozhan smiled. Finally! A parking spot opened as they had circled the place several times. "You're welcome" JiangCheng smiled, looking back at his phone.

When they arrived, Yanli and her new boyfriend was already seated with Huaisang. "Ge!! You made it!!" Yanli stood up and gave Xiaozhan a hug. "Baby this is my brother and childhood friend Jiancheng. Ge, Jiang gege, meet my boyfriend, Jin Jixuan." she says. The next guy to her stood up and shook hands with XiaoZhan and JiangCheng. He wore all white and looked like a model straight out of a fashion magazine. 'Not bad, he was YanLi's type. She always liked the cleancut babyface types like Zixuan.' Xiaozhan thought. Jixuan was managing director at an advertising company and Yanli was a graphic designer there. They had worked together for about two years but got together recently.

"This place is pretty cool" JiangCheng remarked as he took pictures with his phone. "Not bad right. We did a review about them last week and I got some vouchers to spend." Huaisang said. "So whats good here? I'm starving man" Xiaozhan said flipping the menu. "The pasta and pork chops are pretty good. Also they specialize in cocktails." Huaisang added.

The waiter came with a platter of seafood appetizer arranged neatly on a stacker plate. "This is complimentary for Mr Huaisang from our manager" he said. "Wow tell him thanks." Huaisang said. The rest ordered their meal.

"So, I heard Yanli mentioned you are going to teach at a university?" Zixuan asked Xiaozhan. "So you've accepted that teaching job afterall!" Huaisang chuckled. "What's with that reaction man?" Xiaozhan replied. "He can't imagine you as a teacher, you were such a delinquent when we were students. You even broke the class's window one time and there was that other time you slammed the locker door so hard it broke." JiangCheng and Huaisang laughed. 

"But ge was such a good student. He was top of the class and he used to teach me during my exams too. He's a pretty good teacher I'd say." Yanli defended smiling. "Ohh u guys are horrible.. luckily I still have the best sister in the world." Xiaozhan replied. "You better don't let it affect our work" Jiangcheng said pouting slightly.

"Come on Cheng its gonna be okay. I'm returning a favor for Xichen for helping our project last year. He was in a pinch since the current teacher was in maternity leave and her replacement bailed at the last minute. Its gonna be part time and only twice a week. Moreover its pretty close to my place. So it won't affect work that much. I'd catch up just as fast." Xiaozhan winked confidently.

"Which university is that?" Zixuan asked. "National High." Xiaozhan said. "Hey thats where we graduated from!!" Huaisang said. National High was one of the top universities in the country. It was an infamous school that cater for the extremely brilliant or extremely rich. If one was not academically on par, the wealth factor would be taken into consideration for entry. Entry was not that hard if you had money however, graduating was tough because you had to work your ass off to graduate since the exams are known to be tough. As a result many spoilt brats dropped out or transferred out in their third year.

Sometime during their meal, the manager came to their table and said "Hi, I'm Mingjue, I manage this place. Are you guys enjoying everything?" Yanli was delighted as she explained how she enjoyed the food. "Wait for the band to start guys, this new singer is pretty cool and he plays guitar too." Mingjue explained.

Just then the microphone boomed with "test..test.. *ahem.. good evening guys.. I'm Wangyibo, hope you enjoy tonight's song." Then he began to sing while strumming on his guitar. His voice was easy on the ears and the way he held his guitar gave him a really sexy vibe. The girls on the next table squealed and started taking pictures of the guy with their phone.
