Chapter 21: Jealousy

Binbin thought since it was Xiaozhan's birthday, if more people were celebrating it would be more lively. Thus without much pondering, he asked the couple in front of him if they would be interested in watching the movie with them.

Zoey was excited to see what type of coworker Yibo had. So before he could answer, she quickly agreed enthusiastically. Yibo and Xiaozhan exchanged glances, the events unfolded quite fast that both of them did not even manage to stop it.

Sighing, Xiaozhan put his hand on Yibo's shoulder and said, "Lets go!"

Zoey glanced at the two men who 'claimed' to be a couple and somehow felt pity since they both were really good looking. She envied Yibo for being surrounded by such surreal beauties every day.

Xiaozhan pulled Yibo and walked beside him and asked him about his school work. The other two walked behind them and started conversing as well. After some time, Binbin and Zoey seemed to be really engrossed in themselves that they forgot about their supposed 'spouses'. It was quite strange since Yibo did not care so much neither did Xiaozhan but they did not really mind it themselves. 

Soon, they entered the theatres and Yibo was sitting next to Xiaozhan and the other two were sitting on their other sides.

Their arms carelessly brushed against eachother and Xiaozhan felt a warm sensation where they touch. Binbin whispered to Zhan's ear, "You like him don't you? thats why I get to be your boyfriend."

Good thing the cinema was dark so he could not see Xiaozhan blushing."urgh.. don't ask."

Xiaozhan replied. "Hey, if you guys get together I get a chance with that pretty girl. So lets help eachother?"

Xiaozhan turned to him:"Are you insane? why are you jumping on everything you see. Shameless!"

Annoyed, Xiaozhan pinched the side of his ribs. This caused Binbin's to squirm around as it was both painful and ticklish "oww stop that!!"

Yibo turned to Zhan and was quite irritated when he saw the two were having fun. He retaliated by turning toward Zoey and feeding her some popcorn. The gesture was enough to irritate Xiaozhan who began to frown. They were like two little kids trying to best eachother with the game of 'I'm having more fun with my spouse.'

Zoey was munching the popcorn directly from Yibo's fingers. There was a funny expression on her face. She was trying not to laugh at Yibo's strange behaviour that was somehow childish and cute.

"So are you gonna give him the ring?" Zoey whispered to Yibo sensing the tension her little brother is undergoing.

"We'll see about that." he answered.

The movie was a romantic comedy and Zoey and Binbin could not stop laughing at the hillarious scenes.

On the other hand, Yibo and Xiaozhan wore a solemn face and was unable to enjoy themselves. Inviting Yibo was truly a bad idea Xiaozhan thought. He should have stopped Binbin before he try to invite them to the cinema. But who would have thought Binbin was so quick about it. It was no wonder Yibo had rejected the dinner offer before. He did not expect the awkward situation to progress to this level.

Seeing the long face Xiaozhan had pulled for quite some time, Binbin could not help but glance at Zoey who seemed to be having so much fun by herself. He could not resist wanting to walk over and sit beside her. Seeing through his intention, Zhan quickly pulled his hand and held it between his tightly. 

"Stop it seriously! Be a proper boyfriend for one night for Christ's sake." Zhan hissed at his friend. 

"God, you're such a boring companion, I want to sit beside someone who laughs normally on a comedy show."

Binbin thought Yibo's behavior was quite off. He suspected that Yibo also had feelings for Xiaozhan so he decided to test his theory. Binbin pulled Xiaozhan's face close to his and began kissing him. Xiaozhan was taken by surprise and tried to pull away but Binbin held his palm on his head.

Yibo noticed what Xiaozhan and Binbin was doing and his heart sank. He knew that Xiaozhan and Binbin were together but it was still painful to witness the extent of their relationship on first hand. He was so put off by what he saw he almost stood up and planned to leave. He glanced at his jiejie beside him who was oblivious to what had happened. She was enjoying the movie so much he did not have the heart to drag her out to leave with him. In the end. he sat through the whole movie.

His heart was crushed and filled with sadness yet he tried his best to be indifferent to the situation. He tried to normalize his heartbeat by telling himself that his love was not selfish. Above his own happiness, he wanted the one he loved to attain happiness and if it was his sole purpose he would supplement that happiness even at the cost of his own. After all, Zhange had been good to him as a teacher and supervisor. Being able to spend time with him at such close proximity and receiving his constant care had been a privilege that many people would kill to have. He told himself that those were enough. He should not be greedy and demand more from Zhange.

It was close to midnight when the movie ended and the four finally parted ways to return home. Binbin invited himself up to Zhan's penthouse. He casually went to the wine cooler and grabbed them some Jack Daniels. Xiaozhan slumped to the lounge chair feeling exhausted. Binbin looked at his friend's listless body sprawled all over the lounge sofa and could not help but feel pity. 

He sat down in front of him then poured some liquor into the glass before handing it to Zhan, who downed the liquor without much thought.

"Geez I don't get you both. Why are you torturing yourself like this?" Binbin asked.

"You wouldn't understand" Xiaozhan replied solemnly.

"Just bloody tell him your feelings. It even frustrates me so much watching you this way"

"He's got a girlfriend didn't you see?"

"I don't know whats the girl to him but can't you even tell his feelings? Its so fucking obvious. The way he looked at us kissing. Damn.. If looks could kill." Binbin felt chills down his spine as he remembered getting dagger stares from Yibo.

"And why do I get to be dragged into your relationship mess??"

"Maybe I'm just scared. I'm not sure I want to be in a relationship. What if I hurt him? Isn't it better this way? We get to be near eachother and if there is no getting together then there is also no breaking up. If he chose to be normal and get a girlfriend then I'd just accept it regardless. If he's happy then I will just be happy for him?"

"And what about you? Are you happy yourself?" Binbin turned to look at him while pouring the liquor on Zhan's empty glass before handing it back to him.

"Why does it matter. I'd get over it. Besides I have you to keep me company from time to time. That isn't so bad after all."

Binbin finally surrendered. This guy... He's hopeless.

"Thats it. I've had it with you. Go mull over it! I'm going back home." Binbin got up but Zhan pulled his hand.

"Won't you keep me company??"

"No. You need to grow up and I'm not gonna babysit you any longer."

"Strange those words are coming out from you."

"I won't be rilled in between you idiots. Call me when you've come to your senses." As he said this, he took his jacket hanging by the chair and left the house.
