A Hellish Situation

Chapter 1: Life Is Great!

"You know I once heard a saying, you can give without loving, but you can't love without giving. Unfortunately I forgot who said that, but I guess it doesn't matter. Anyways, that saying didn't stick to me until what happened last year. You must have saw the news "Unknown man and 3 people cause mayhem through the streets of Los Angeles"? Yeah. Didn't expect in my entire life to be on the news. Besides that, here's what went down a year ago that changed my life forever.....

(Third person POV)
Los Angeles, California. The best/worst place to live. Money, rich people, designer clothes, fast cars, homeless people, gangs, all sorts of stuff.

As most people thought of LA as the melting pot of California, Carmine thought of it as an city of opportunity. Carmine was living the life.

He was a video game designer for the one of the most famous video game developers, Activision.

Activision is most famous for its video game series Call of Duty. Carmine loved video games especially Call of Duty since he grew up with them. Now when Carmine found out that they were hiring, Carmine had to apply. He eventually got the job.

Carmine was also a writer and wrote multiple books. With both of these jobs he basically has good money. Carmine finally got his dream car and his own house. Now instead of buying a nice expensive condo in the city, he bought a nice normal 2 story house by the ocean and his own lighthouse that was far away from the city. Carmine didn't really like the city, he loved LA and had to go to the city since his workplace was in the middle of it, but he didn't like all the loud people and cars honking all the time. So he had others things in mind. So because of that Carmine had to wake up really early and had to drive to work which took him about 30 minutes.

Carmine adopted his own dog named Shlonky who was a golden retriever. He loved Shlonky and Shlonky loved him.

Not to long ago Carmine found the love of his life named Rebecca. Rebecca was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. He met her at a bar with his friend John. John was his best friend since the Marines.

Yes Carmine was in the Marines. I wouldn't say Carmine was messed up from the Marines but he saw some stuff he wish he hadn't and would remember them the rest of his life. After the Marines, Carmine and John continued being best friends. John was a nice guy, but an immature one. John was a chick magnet. Every time Carmine and John went to a bar, every chick that went up to them was talking to John. Carmine was very handsome but wasn't a flirty type. When he meet Rebecca he had to go over to her and ask for her number. She actually gave it to him. A few weeks after they started dating they agreed they loved each other. A few years after Carmine proposed to her. She happily said yes and their wedding is set to be this month.

Carmine had never been happier in his life. Everything was going just okay, well....was going okay.

(Carmine's POV)
"So what do you guys wanna do with this?" My boss said as my coworkers and I was sitting at the conference table having a meeting about the new call of duty game. Everyone was silent until
Jess spoke up.

"How about we change some of the script to make it more eye catching?" Jess said.

"I agree" I said.
Everyone started to agree with her proposition.

"Okay, sounds good now that it's agreed on I wanted to talk about your guys new work." My boss said.

"You guys are going to make up your own video game and whatever game gets the most votes gets it worked on." I was in shock. Could this be the opportunity where I can get my own game published?!? I was very happy.

"Everyone understand?" My boss asked.

"Yes ma'am" everyone said.

"Ok your dismissed." She said as everyone got up and left. I went back to my desk and started working on the new call of duty game with my coworker right next to me. We took almost two hours.

"So what are you going to make up Carmine?" Ted said.

"Eh I don't know" I said as I slouched back in my chair.
"What about you?" 

"I don't either" he said. "How's Rebecca doing" Ted asked.

"Eh she doing ok. I think this whole wedding thing is stressing her out." I said with a concerned face.

"Heh Molly was the same way. She calmed down after the wedding was done and over with." Ted said.

"Heh I can't wait for that." I said.

"Preach bother." Ted chuckled.

When the day was done everyone went home but I stayed for a bit. Then I picked up my stuff and went home. It took me 30 minutes and finally got there. Shlonky was waiting for me by the door and ran to me barking.

"Hey Shlonky!" I said petting him.

"How you doing boy?" I said as Shlonky barked.

"Wanna come inside?" I asked. He barked.

"Alright let's go inside." I said waking to door unlocking it. Shlonky ran in inside and I shut the door. I took off my jacket and hung up my keys. I walked over to the kitchen and got some dog food and put it in a bowl.

"Here you go boy, enjoy!" I said as Shlonky barked and started eating. I took of my shoes and plopped on the couch and sighed. I turned on the tv and ate some cereal. I changed the channel to the news.

"Two dead and one cop injured today in lower Compton this afternoon as a cop responded to a disturbance until two men shot at the cop, hitting the police officer in the arm as the officer shot back killing the two. Both identified as 17 year old Anthony Martinez and 16 year old Joseph Cancun." The news reporter said. I shook my head as i took a bit of my cereal. "In other news, a possible portal found? At two am, A security camera behind a store caught this mysterious bright circle appear then disappear. This wasn't the first time these were spotted around the city. If you seen any of these in progress please contact police but to be honest they could give less than a shit about it."

"So much for entertainment." I say as I took one more bite of cereal and turned of the tv. I rinsed off my bowl and Shlonky followed me as I walked to my room. As I walked in, i used the restroom. I took off my clothes and got into bed and Shlonky jumped up. I got under the blankets and opened my laptop and started working.
A few hours passed makung me really tired.

"Eh i can finish this tomorrow." I said closing my laptop. I then fell asleep.
