Zoey's POV
I jump up just as the whip slices the air. It wraps around my wrist and I yank as hard as I can on it, and the demon guy stumbles.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" he shouts.
"Kicking your ass!" I rush him and kick his legs out from beneath him, and he lays there on the ground. Suddenly, his body and whip dissolve into thin air, and Leigh gets up. "Okay, I'll take that, I guess."
"Chloe, are you okay?" Leigh asks my sister. I turn and walk over, seeing Chloe pull her arms back down and her sad, terrified eyes meet us.
"You aren't safe here," she mutters.
"Yeah, we've established that," Leigh says. "But if it's any difference, we aren't safe anywhere, really."
The door opens and my heart races as Gordon steps in the room. "Well, hello there, my lovely freaks of nature."
"Let us go!" Leigh screams.
"Let you go?" Gordon laughs. "Why would I do that? You three have proved to be so much fun, I think I'll have you stay for a little bit longer." He grins. "Perhaps forever?"
"In your dreams," I snap.
He looks at me. "Oh, quite the mouth on you, I see. Well, my dear, you have to learn when to shut your mouth." A razor-sharp beam shoots me in the right shoulder and I collapse on the ground. Leigh scrambles for me, but she gets shot, too.
"Leave us alone," Chloe growls, stunning us all.
Gordon looks at her. "Since when did you develop a rebellious attitude?"
She stands up. "You are a monster. I will not sink to your level you arrogant son of a bitch. I am not going to say it again. Leave. Us. Alone."
Leigh and I lay incapacitated on the floor, and watch as Chloe slowly stands up to face off with this monster.
"Are you going to try and make me?" he asks.
She smiles at him. "You really outta pick your battles." She throws her hand forward and a wall of electricity slams into him, and he vanishes. "Come on, we need to find the boys!"
But that's when I pass out.
