Eragon's POV
He sets Zoey's nearly lifeless body down on the steel table before the Director. She smiles, her blood-red hair framing her pale face. She smiles widely as she looks at the girl's shaking form.
"She's dying," the Director says.
"She is. I thought it would be ... the best course of action to take place. To kill one twin, and see how the other reacts," he says.
The Director beams up at him. "Why don't you go deliver the news to her? Tell her just how wrong she was to trust you with their lives. Prove how powerful you are if you can trick the gods themselves."
He nods and teleports himself to the cell that Chloe is kept in. She looks up, her eyes glassy with tears and pain. She just stares brokenly up at him.
"Eragon? Where ... where's my sister?" she stutters.
"She is dying."
"What?"
"Yes. Well, unfortunately, you two were foolish to believe that you could trust me in the first place. I am not your Guardian. I am the Warden. And I am the one who stabbed your sister in the back ... Both literally and figuratively."
Her eyes widen. "You ... you betrayed us?!" Her voice is a squeak, and it amuses him.
"Yes, that I did, dear Chloe. And it's really all your fault. She is dying because of you. And what will happen to dear old Chloe once Zoey is dead and gone?" he taunts her.
"You bastard!" she screams, slamming herself against the bars of her cage.
He chuckles.
"It's all just another experiment ... Here in my Funhouse!"
