Taking Their Advice

"Joyce!" I scream at the top of my lungs.

She jumps, causing her to dump the pills down the toilet.

"What you do that for?" She shouts back.

"What are you doing?"

"Uhh sorting pills, what does it look like.''

"Like your trying to take them."

She rolled her eyes.

"What were you really trying to do?"

"I just told you. I saw some pills on the floor and picked them up to sort them."

"Joyce." I say sternly.

" Cut the bull."

"Okay, Okay I was going to take some sleeping pills. To go to sleep."

"Some?" I say.

"Maybe a lot." She says.

"Come here." I say.

She comes over and we walk downstairs to the living room.

As we sit down she says...... "Look I won't do it again. Just don't tell ma."

"So you think that with an apology and puppy dog eyes you'll have my word?"

"Pretty much." She says innocently.

" Well sorry ain't gonna cut it." I say.

"Now what's this about?"

" I've been having some ruff nights since you've been gone." She said in a silent whisper.

"What's been going on Joyce?" I asked concerned.

" Nothing its just with all the homework I've been getting and half of the stuff I do, I don't understand."

"That doesn't give you the reason to try and wash your worries away with pills." I say.

She looks down.

''You could've asked anyone. There are a bunch of people in this house and you have friends. Stop making excuses for something you have older and wiser people around to ask about." I raise my voice a bit.

"Stop ignoring what's in front of you. Your obstacle. Your problem."

I stop what I'm saying and whisper to myself. "Stop ignoring your problems. Others that can help."

"I get it, okay Viv. And I know, I know your only doing it because you love me."

I smile. "You think you know me so well don't you?"

"Yeah I do. Like I know that your in love with someone. And that your second guessing yourself about something. I'm guessing a life changing choice." She questions yet confidently.

I gasped. "You creep." She laughed.

"Was I right?"
I shook my head yes.

She got up and started doing a victory dance.I stopped laughing.

She stopped and looked at my puzzled face.

"What?"

"Joy, I- -im just so lost." I choked.

"Its love, isn't it?" I nodded.

"I'm in love with this guy that shows me no emotion. And then there's a guy that wants to with me."

"Do you want to be with him?" She asked while rubbing my back.

"I don't know. I really don't." I say.

"Dudette this is gonna sound cheesy, but follow your heart it'll lead you down the right path."

"Uhh you can be so mushy sometimes."

" I know right I think I get it from Hayleigh.'' She said.

I stand up.
"Go get some rest, kiddo." I say.

She nods..... "I need it."

I walk to the messy kitchen and grab a root beer and drink it down with ease. I never realized my sister could have so much wisdom. I guess I could take her advice I just hope I don't have to decide later on....
