Love Amongst Dragons was a book that Anzu and Kaori's grandfather, Iroh II, had given to them only 4 years before his death. One of Anzu's fondest memories of Kaori was sitting next to her as he read it aloud. Anzu smiled as she remembered what fun they'd had that day.
"'Though I was trapped in the body of a mortal, you willingly gave me your heart! I cannot help but give you mine in return!' said the Dragon emperor to his love." Iroh said, in a comical voice as Kaori and Anzu listened intently. He heightened the pitch of his voice as he read out the dragon empress' line. "'Only with your glory hidden in false form could you finally recognize my devotion!' said the Dragon empress, and then, they shared a kiss, got married, and lived happily ever after.' " He said, smiling as the two smiled with glee back at him. "That was great!" Kaori shouted as she jumped up and down excitedly. "Except that sappy wedding part. That was gross." She said sticking her tongue out. "I liked that part. I'm gonna marry Kaori when I'm big." Anzu said, clasping her hands together, and smiling excitedly. "Wha! That's gross! I'm never getting married!" Kaori said, sticking her tongue out at her and stamping her feet repeatedly. "You can't marry your sister anyway!" She said, pouting. Iroh laughed at their antics, and clapped. "My grandfather told me stories of how he used a mask of the water spirit to hide his identity when he was young. He became known as 'The Blue Spirit.' And got a name for himself in the fire nation."
"Y'know. My grandfather, Fire lord Zuko once owned this book. He told me himself that him and his family would often go see the play. My mother Izumi took me to see it when I was 7 or 6...and again when I was about 10..how about I come take you two in some time? I'm sure your father won't mind." He said, lifting the pair up into his arms. Kaori clapped excitedly. "I can't wait to see that big fight scene! I bet it'll be so cool!" Anzu smiled. "I can't wait to see the wedding!" Anzu said. "Alright! As soon as I can! It shouldn't be long! Some day soon!" He said with a warm smile.
That day never came.
"Sorry girls...your grandfather can't play with you today...he's fallen ill."
'I'll always remember the look on Kaori's face when she found it he was gone. It was..heartbreaking. But she wouldn't talk to me. She never talked to me. Only when she had to. It was around that time...when father...snapped. I don't know what happened...one day...he just shut us off, from the world, from himself, and from eachother.'
Present day
"Kaori. I will find you." Anzu said to herself as she stared into the mirror, furrowing her brow and lifting a sword to her neck. "And I will bring you back." She said sternly, as she aggressively bunched all of her thick black hair in her fist, she took the sword, and with a swift jerk of her hand, her hair felll to the ground. She'd chopped it up to chin length, pinning it back and scowling. She placed the sword back in it's sheath, and placed the blue mask, resembling a dragon, with white features onto her face.
As she fled, a guard stopped her, pointing his sword at her. "Remove the mask. And you won't get hurt." He said, pointing his sword at her. Anzu drew her sword, taking a wide stance. "Drop the sword and you won't get hurt." She said, deepening her voice as to sound less recognisable. She unarmed him, launching his sword into the air, before proceeding to throw it over the wall. "Are you done?"
The guard stared at her with a fearful expression. "Uh-huh..." She took a running start, launching herself onto the wall. "W-wait! Who...who are you?" The guard asked, his voice shaking as he spoke. Anzu looked back at him, adjusting her mask.
"I am the blue spirit."
Meanwhile..on airbender Island:
"Oh! We're gonna be bestfriends! I just know it! You have such a nice aura!" Tenten said excitedly. "Aura?" Kaori tilted her head. "Aura. A supposed emanation surrounding the body of a living creature and regarded as an essential part of the individual. Everyone has one. Koda's is blue, and Lee's is red. Yours is...hm...wait...are you hiding something?" She said, smiling widely. "Wow. You're good." Kaori said bluntly. "She is, isn't she?" Koda said, nudging her. "I never met Korra, but I heard so much about her! I bet you'll be a splendid Avatar!" She said excitedly, leading her onward. "Koda! You come too! The more the merrier!" She said, pulling them onward. "Uh-huh. So you're...all airbenders?" Kaori said looking around. "Nah. I'm an air alcolyte. So is Lee." Koda said bluntly. "So...first let's go to...the meditation pavilion first!" Tenten said, leading them into a large room with many people inside, all of them were sitting cross-legged with their eyes closed. They looked at-peace, and very calm, Kaori felt envious.
