Rainbow
A rainbow of colors
A plethora of light
The young little boy
is flying his kite
The sky no longer dark
The ground begins to dry
Water reflects the light
A prism in the sky
Thunder Storm
As I sit in my backyard
basking in the warm sun
I watch the sky turn to night
the wind blowing in from the west
Little cracks of light shine through
as if the sky is an egg shell
through which an alien is punching a hole
The Leo in the sky roars
heralding the mighty upcoming production
Elephants
Elephants large, majestic, strong
Milling about with trunks so long
Tusks of white ivory
& gray wrinkled skin
Never to perform at the circus again
Bumble Bee
In his black & yellow jail suit
Kindly pollinating the flowers
His swift approach unexpected
Injecting his fiery venom
Buzz buzz ouch!
Roses
Roses colorful, all in a row
Red, yellow, pink, white
Even the black one in plain sight
From a bush they grow
Fall
Leaves lighting the trees on fire
Bright yellow, orange, red
Swallowing each branch
Burning foliage not dead
Flames of color bursting from the trunk
But lying on the ground crunchy, brown
New Years Eve
Burning dried up Christmas trees
An annual bonfire by the sea
It happens every New Years Eve
There's lots of delicious food to eat
We kiss our partner at midnight
As we cuddle up by the toasty fire
As we hang out we laugh, some cry
Underneath the starry sky
New Years Eve
Turns New Years Day
A time for new
Old goes away
Shoe Polish
I'm a little girl again
Shining my dad's shoes
Scrubbing off the old scuff marks
Moving back & forth
Dark & shiny, bright & smooth
In a small, round tin
Now days we throw old away
New is not always better
Don't waste in haste
Toast
Toasted to perfection
Buttered & golden brown
Crust removed
sitting in a perfect square
Not too hot
so I chomp down
Hints of cinnamon sugar in the air
Breathing in the sweet aroma
Ice Cube
Cold, solid rock of frozen water
Cut into squares
with jagged edges on one side
A plethora of uses
but I don't like many
Frozen fruit works better
A glass through which to look
for a distorted reality
Sleep
I try to sleep
But, my eyes continue to blink
I think of you
& why you didn't love me too
My dreams were fine & great
but now I'm awake
I try to sleep
But, my eyes continue to blink
Why didn't you love me too
& my heart begins to sink
