A report of an attack arrived the next morning.
They all sat, tensed and poised, as the enemy was attacking them as of the moment Rhysand opened up the sheet of paper. He showed no reaction of whatever was on the parchment, even as he placed it, letters down, on the oak table, he still seemed unruffled.
"How many?" Cassian growled. Elide had a distinct feeling that he was taking this personally.
Rhys raised a brow, though Elide noted that there was somewhat strained humor from the gesture. "Dead or alive?"
"Both and how many attackers, you ass."
She heard Aelin chuckle and saw the tightening in the commander's shoulders at the easy sound. Though, one shouldn't snap at Aelin, not just because of Rowan, but because of Aelin, herself.
"Two of those Fae, and three new creatures. Five dead, three injured."
"What creatures?"
"They're described," Azriel slid in smoothly ", as humans, but as starved to the point where all you could see is their bones and shrinking muscles. No hair, claws, no eyes, and two sets of fangs."
They all went silent at that.
"Did you experienced such beings during your war?" asked Feyre.
Aelin cocked her head. "It was true that Erawan was brewing and experimenting upon both humans and Fae, but he never had the chance to release all of them."
"Are there sightings of any other creatures?" Manon asked, sliding the topic in as smoothly as an adder would crawl into its hole.
Azriel nodded, his fingers twitching slightly, the only form of distress Elide had gleaned from him so far. "Winged beasts, creatures with claws that grow past their knees, bowmen with human halves."
Mor chuckled, though the sound wasn't genuine. "Are you sure those aren't just regular Night Court beasts?"
At that, the spymaster turned his cold gaze upon the Morrigan, something flickered in his eyes, Elide noted the tension in his shoulders and stone-cold posture as well as the twitching muscles. "Would you doubt my work?" Yes, something happened between the two. Something big enough that every member of the Night Court tensed, other than Amren, who sat calmly, watching the whole procedure.
It was as if the casualness that was already thickening suddenly froze into a frigid and tense atmosphere, if you cut the tension with a knife, you can hack pieces of this to build a fort. Elide eyed the two, it would seem to be nothing more than past drama, though it would never hurt to look.
"You know that's not what she meant, Az," Feyre said gently.
Azriel squared his shoulders and Manon continued ", Do you think they discovered Erawan's creations?"
"Most likely not, they have yet to find our world, they must have settled for this one by accident," Aelin said.
"Yes," Manon said, the voice of a commander ", But Erilea was never Erawan's home."
"That," Aelin drawled, though her eyes distant ", is something to ponder."
"Scheming face," Dorian said.
Rhys raised an eyebrow and Cassian smirked ", Rhysie does it too."
Dorian raised a brow ", I feel as though it would be quite common in the company we keep."
"One would assume so," Manon said wryly.
"What are we going to do?"Nesta said suddenly.
"We meet the other courts," Rhysand said ", See if they are having any issue."
