CHAPTER 26
"What are you doing here?" Jason closed the door firmly behind him in the conference room, staring at Alyssa like she was the only woman in the world. "Why is everyone asking me that? I got an invite." She pulled her card out of her purse again. Jason pulled the invitation out to read with eyes wide with curiosity. "Who gave you this?"
"Some weird black lady at the Dollar Tree. She creeped me out." Jason gulped as fear began to creep into his stomach. "These invitations were handed to only a few people of Dan's choosing. He single-handedly invited them personally." He sat down beside her in the chair. "I think the voodoo princess gave this to you...but why?" Alyssa's eyes widened. "That lady knows about me now. Oh my god. I thought she didn't want the curse to be broken." Jason took a moment, thinking about the events that lead up to this point.
"Maybe Janet was right..." He mumbled. "Maybe she isn't as bad as we thought her to be and it was really Dan the whole time." Alyssa leaned in close to understand what he was saying. "Jason you are speaking to yourself, I can't hear you." His eyes shot up to her. "What did she say when she handed this to you?" Alyssa paused for a moment then remembered. "Something about fate and her spirit was telling her I needed to go to this party." Jason held his head. Alyssa removed his hand so she could see his reaction. "What? What does that mean?"
"That fucking Dan lied." He laughed then. "That fucking asshole lied." He grabbed her face kissing her lips with joy spilling over. "I knew he was wrong. I knew I didn't want you for the nut. I want you Alyssa Sampson for you."
"And not because I can make you cum?" He laughed. "Well, that is a plus right." She smiled a little at his joking, but deep down really needed to know the reason. Jason saw the insecurities and doubt still in her eyes then became serious. "I promise no sex until you ask for me." He leaned forward to whisper in her ear. "And I will make you beg for it." Her body was already wanting to ask, but she needed something more than sex for the connection to be true now more than ever.
"Deal." She accepted. "So what are you going to do about Dan and the voodoo lady?" Jason sighed. "I will confront her, me and Janet, and figure out the truth for ourselves. Dan doesn't want the curse to end which is why he was so eager to visit you and keep you away from me. You are the key. The voodoo princess knows it. Maybe she lied to Dan to keep him away from you, but whatever the reason. I will talk to her and figure it out. I would prefer to keep you out of it for now." He held her hands for a while needing the connection between them.
"I missed you." He blurted. "I had given up when you weren't responding to my notes or calling me back. I had to get a new phone and everything." Alyssa placed her hand on top of his. "I wasn't sure if you really wanted me or was just using me. I'm really new at this and I have seen and heard plenty of stories about women getting played. I just don't want to be stupid." Jason smiled. "If you only knew how terrified I am to know it's someone out there that can break this curse. I don't know what the hell I'm doing either. And trust me, I know what's it's like to be used. These women out here are using me for my body every day. How do I know if you aren't doing the same thing?"
Alyssa winced back as if his words struck her. Could she have just wanted him for his body? Jason opened his mouth to speak, but Alyssa spoke before him. "An officer came to my house the other day asking about the Abagail investigation." Jason's face turned serious quickly. "Fuck. What did they say?"
"It was only one man. An officer McGee I think his name was." Anger boiled into his chest before he could contain it, but he couldn't think about that at the moment now that he'd just gotten his woman back. "It's fine. Everything has been taken care of." He said, with a smile as his eyes glanced up towards the door. "Beware, my sister has spotted you."
The door opened as Janet entered. "Jason, is this her?" Jason nodded. Janet wrapped her arms around Alyssa lovingly. "Wow! A pleasure to meet you. I'm Jason's better half, Janet. He has told me all about you. Pity though he lied to me and told me you weren't coming." She glanced evilly at Jason as he just held a smile on his face. "I didn't know she would show." He quickly defended himself by standing up, grabbing Alyssa's hand as she stood as well. "I'm Alyssa. Jason has talked about you all the time as well. It's good to finally meet you."
"Welcome to this hell of a parade Christmas party. Dan is making a toast. That's why I have come to get you." Janet explained circling her glass in her hands. Jason rolled his eyes annoyed. "We better go then." They all walked out to the front of the stage where the Dj was while Dan and Wilson stood beside each other ready to make their toast. Dan faked smiles for the crowd, making both of his children sick to their stomachs. "Wait here. I will come back for you." Jason whispered to Alyssa as he released her hand reluctantly, walking to the front beside Dan.
"Good Evening everyone welcome to the Sanders Christmas party the most reputable of the year so I've been told." Everyone laughed at Dan's statement. "As you may know, my son and my daughter are the faces and my loyal employees that keep this company flowing with the dough. My daughter is the new edition to this work family. Her new office will be located on the outskirts of the city, bigger, better, and waiting to please whoever." He wrapped his arms around Janet's shoulders.
She cringed at first but then smiled in the fake manner that Dan was. Everyone clapped at the news. Janet stared into the crowd, winking at the Harold investor who was eyeballing her, staring at her long legs. "It is my pleasure to be a part of and the founding father of the Sanders Company, especially this year since our profits have never been greater. So drink up and be merry and have a hell of a time." Dan finished, lifting his glass as everyone followed suit, then the music started back.
Wilson stared at Dan, angered he wouldn't even allow him to speak, but not saying anything as he left the stage along with Jason and Janet. She walked up to Harold whispering in his ear, then grabbing his hands as she stared at Dan while she and Harold walked off. Jason walked over to Alyssa. "Evening pretty lady. May I have this dance?" He asked, bowing like a prince with laughter in his eyes. She accepted. "You sure can."
She took his hand as he wrapped one arm around her waist, then grabbed her hand with the other. He pressed her close as they swayed with the music. "Have I told you how beautiful you look tonight?" he asked her. She shook her head. "You can tell me over and over." She laughed. He joined in with her. He pressed her even closer. "Why are you holding me so hard?" She asked, looking up at him with her brown eyes of innocence.
"Because I'm afraid if I let you go you will run out of here and leave me." She pressed even closer, placing her head on his chest as they continued to sway. This moment was all they needed to regain whatever connection Alyssa felt they didn't have. This was intimacy beyond the sex. The sheer closeness of their bodies, the feel of the music. It was as if they were the only two in the room. "I can't believe you came back to me." He cuddled her head lovingly. His heart beating in rhythm with hers and for once in Jason's lonely existence, he felt like he belonged. Alyssa was it for him whether she knew it or not. He deserved this. He deserved her.
