CHAPTER 48

The lobby was becoming cold and dreary inside the Sanders building while Janet paced back and forth with one officer watching her. The one officer she had her eyes on the whole time. She wished like hell it was someone else watching her instead of this man's eyes all over her. "Can you sit down you are making me nervous." He joked. She turned around not wanting his velvety voice to smooth over her body like it did. She hugged herself not wanting to think about Officer Williamson, only her brother. He walked up to her by the window. She wanted to curse but kept her composure.

"Jason is a pretty brave man I'm sure he found Alyssa and will be home." He said, touching her shoulder causing her to jump as the connection pierced her core. She moved away from him. "I'm sorry, did I do something wrong?" She didn't reply. "I'm just waiting for my brother." She said. "You don't need to get so close to me." Officer Williamson laughed. "So is it true what the rumors say about your family?" He moved a little closer to her. "Are you cursed?"

Janet laughed then at the whisper as if it was a secret. "What you don't believe in curses Officer Williamson?" She asked with a smirk that would drive any man crazy. "Call me Antonio, and no I don't believe in those things at all. Curses and voodoo is shit you tell the kids to get them to act right." Janet scoffed. "I wish those were true." She sighed, dropping her arms to her side in defeat. Her worry grew by the second. "Look I don't mean to pry, but..."

"No, it's ok. You think I don't hear what people are saying about me, about my family. Hell half of the rumors are unfortunately true." Antonio gulped showing his masculine Adam's apple. Why was she turned on by the simple act was beyond her. "It is a rather shady job being a high-end prostitute, I suppose. Whatever helps pay the rent. I've seen worse being a cop. There are worse things." Janet nodded as he explained. "How noble of you to say that, but no it's nothing noble about what I do. I suppose men make it easy." Antonio frowned. "What the hell is that supposed to mean?" she began to walk to the couch as he followed her around the lobby. "Men throw themselves at me all the time. It isn't hard to give them what they want."

"And what is that?" She leaned into him inches away from his face as she pressed her body close. "To be fucked." She backed away leaving him in a heated state of both arousal and anger. "That's not true. Not all men are like that." She turned back to him. "And I suppose you are the different man, the rare man species out of millions of other men, you're the one who won't succumb to the will of the vagina?" Antonio remained quiet, letting her have her rant. "See I'm right. I know there are some good men out there, but in my line of work I know I will lose faith in the average man even though I'm the one causing them to backslide."

She crossed her arms. Before he could speak her phone rang causing her to hop up and answer. "Jason thank God. Where are you? Is Alyssa ok?"

"Yes. I am with her at her home now as a doctor is looking her over." Janet covered her mouth. "What did Frank do? Oh God did he..."

"No. She's fine. It's just a precaution. Janet, listen I need you to stay there with Officer Williamson for the night. I need to tend to Alyssa before coming back. More officers are on their way just in case Frank shows up." Jason explained over the other end. Janet glanced at Officer Williamson with annoyance in her eyes. She had to stay the night with him of all men. "And I need you to call Dan and Wilson for me. Let them know Melissa is..." He paused and Janet knew the answer already. "She's gone."

Janet sighed, closing her eyes at the news. "I didn't like the bitch, but I didn't want her dead. I will tell them. I will be fine, just keep me posted okay?"

"Yeah, I will. Be careful." Janet sighed hanging up the phone. "Everything ok?" Antonio asked, standing up walking over to her. She nodded. "They're fine. They found her." Antonio smiled with relief. "That's wonderful news, but I'm guessing we aren't in the clear yet?" She shook her head. "Frank is still out there." Then right on cue, they heard a noise from outside. Antonio held Janet back from investigating, protecting her with his strong muscular arms.

They both peeked out the window to see where the source of the noise was. A shadowy figure walked through the back of the building. "Shit. There is a door in the back right?" Antonio took out his gun as a precaution. "Frank has a key, but he would be stupid to come back here knowing all the police are looking for him," Janet spoke, as she grabbed Antonio's hand walking to the back of the lobby, staying close by him. "He would be, but what are the chances he has nowhere else to go?" He replied gun in his hand, pointing right at the back door.

"Stay close by me." Janet nodded, as he released her hand to hold the gun properly. She wanted to grab his arm for support, but she didn't. She was scared shitless, but at least she would act bravely in front of Antonio of all people. The back door was definitely opened and whoever opened it went up the stairwell. There was no other place he could go. They ran up the stairway trying to follow quickly behind. They ran up a couple flights before they entered the room. The second floor of the building was decorated with white lining and sheets with plush white carpet flooring.

Janet touched Antonio's arm, gesturing him to the blood that was on the carpet. "Is that..." Antonio held his breath, holding her tightly to him. He could feel her shake and wanted nothing more but to put a bullet between Frank's eyes for causing her fear and killing these women. Another thud came from around the corner towards the bed. Janet jumped as they walked cautiously towards the noise. They turned the corner to see Valerie tied up and bleeding from her side.
