CHAPTER 24
A couple of weeks had passed by and still, Jason hadn't heard any word from Alyssa. He was starting to believe she had moved on and forgot about him, but he wouldn't give up. He texted her with his new phone, then looked up to see Melissa walking in. "Okay, I have the list for the Christmas party on Saturday. Here are the investors that Dan personally invited." Jason took the list. "Most of these are construction contractors. No one out of the ordinary."
Melissa stepped closer. "I checked most of them out and they seem pretty legit, except for one. It seems Dan can't get his hands on Mr. Jones." Jason looked up at her as the name sounded familiar. "Is that Harold Jones, the religious investor Dan kicked out of the investing list last year?" She nodded excitedly. "Wilson must have put him back on the list. He won't be bought which means your sister could be free."
Jason wanted to smile but knew better. "Not yet. We will see Saturday how this goes. Dan has a way of changing people's minds. I'm sort of surprised you joined on our wagon against him." Melissa shrugged. "After that night on the roof, I meant what I said. We are really fucked up and most of it happened because of him. He is ruining everyone's lives." Jason couldn't argue with that as he got ready for his first client of the day.
"Have you heard from Tracy lately?" he asked, buttoning his shirt down. "No. The last I heard from her was her appointment a couple of weeks ago." "Right. She told me she was quitting since her and her boyfriend broke up, but I didn't think she would really vanish. With everything that happened to Abagail, I'm kind of worried for her." Melissa began to write in her notepad.
"I will make a note to call and check on her." Jason turned to her then. "Thanks. And thank you for being there for me that night. I don't think I ever got a chance to say it but it did mean a lot to have someone." She smiled then. "No problem. We were friends once Jason before all this happened. Maybe we can be that again." He nodded. "Maybe." Grabbing his tie and walking out of the room.
Alyssa rushed to the door to open it when someone began to beat on it like it was the police. "Who the hell..." Then she saw it was the police. She quickly shut her mouth. "Miss Sampson?"
"Yes, that's me."
"I'm Officer McGee. Can I come in?" She hesitated at first but then opened the door wider for him to enter. "What is this about?" She asked once the door was firmly closed. "About Jason Sanders and Abagail Hawthorne." She gulped, knowing the day would come when they would ask her questions. She sat nervously on the couch. "What about them?"
"Abagail has been missing for almost a month now. I just have some questions about your last conversation with her." Alyssa licked her lips. "Eyewitnesses say they saw you and Abagail fighting in the women's bathroom. Is that true?" Alyssa nodded. "What was the conversation about?" She paused trying to remember.
"She was trying to get Jason for herself. Something about he doesn't date his clients."
"Did she try to attack you?" Alyssa remembered the woman pulling her arm back. "I didn't feel threatened, but she said it like a warning." He began to write things down. "And did her and Jason share any words after that?" "Yes I'm assuming they did, but I left for the limo."
"So is it safe to say Jason could have taken her?" Alyssa looked as if he struck her physically. "No. Jason was with me like two minutes after I left and I stayed with him all night." The officer sighed disappointedly. "You don't have to take up for your boyfriend Miss Sampson. This man ruins lives. Are you aware of what he does for a living?"
"Yes, I know what he does." She replied with a shameful sigh. Officer McGee began to shake his head. "I really need your help to find her and bring her kidnapper to justice. Please, will you call me if you find out anything?" She nodded taking his card as he walked towards the door. Alyssa held her chest as he left the house. After the nervousness subsided, she had to go to clear her head, so she went to the only place she'd rather be beside her house, and that was Dollar Tree.
Shopping always calmed her down as she shopped for kitchen stuff. She reached for a pan, then looked over to her right to see a woman there with a big smile on her face. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you." The woman was beautiful, dark-skinned with full lips and wearing an African dashiki dress with long hair. Alyssa jumped out of her skin almost. The woman laughed, staring at her like she knew her.
"I'm sorry. Do I know you?" Alyssa asked, curious as the woman held her hand out for a handshake. Alyssa took it cautiously but then regretted the decision as the woman twisted her hand over to see her palm. "Forgive me for asking this, but do you have a new love interest?" Alyssa jerked away. "Yeah." She replied, awkwardly walking off. The woman followed her. "I'm sorry but my name is Bianca and something told me to come over here and talk to you. I have this invitation I think you will need to have." Alyssa turned around while the woman placed an envelope in her bag.
"My spirit is telling me you should go. You won't be disappointed. It's fate." Alyssa looked down at the card opening to see an invitation to the Sanders Christmas party. Her heart began to beat loudly as she turned back to the woman, only to see she was gone. Her eyes widened as she dropped her hand basket. "Ma'am, are you alright?" Someone asked her as her hands shook with the invitation, frozen. Who was that woman? How did she know where to find her? So many questions rammed through her mind that only Jason had the answers too.
