CHAPTER 47

Fairchild and Jason walked up to Elizabeth's house with much precaution. She had already informed some other cops to go around the back of the house while they walked in the front. "You stay behind me ok? NO heroics." She demanded to Jason, but Jason couldn't promise anything. Alyssa was his heart and soul if she was in danger he would jump in front of anything to save her. Fairchild kicked open the door, gun in front of her, as they walked through the dreary house. Flies began to form with a horrendous smell that shattered all of their noses. Jason's heart tore open thinking of the possibility that he was too late.

"Something is definitely dead in here." He said, with much heaviness on his heart. He prayed it wasn't Alyssa. Fairchild opened another door leading into the living room, to see the TV on with a woman sitting on the couch. "Ma'am put your hands up where I can see them," Fairchild called out to the woman with Jason following close behind. "Ma'am?" She walked around to the front of the couch to see Melissa sitting there with cheater on her chest and her stomach.

Jason covered his mouth with a huge lump in his throat. "She would've been his accomplice. She changed the cleaning times so why would he kill her?" He asked, as his emotions were threatening to choke him. Anger mostly that this bastard he had around, all these years, would do something so gruesome. "She was useless after all his work was done," Fairchild replied, picking up a glass from the table. "It's still cold. He could still be here." She aimed her gun again checking the rest of the house.

They walked slowly up the stairs seeing countless toys for children unmoved. Jason cursed under his breath. "He has kids Fairchild. Fuck. I hope he isn't crazy enough to hurt them." Fairchild didn't answer as they proceeded up the stairs. The first room had to be the oldest room. No one was in there as they proceeded to the next room which was the bathroom. Jason lingered for a moment in the oldest child's room, staring at a picture the child drew of her family.

The father wasn't in it which made Jason's heart clench. These pictures were old from when Frank was in the service or he never came home. "Jason?" Fairchild shocked him into reality. "Stay with me." He nodded as he followed her to the next room. "This must be the baby room, right?" Jason touched the baby's crib. "She never got a chance to use the room it looks like. So maybe he wasn't lying about that. She was pregnant again."

Fairchild observed the room as it was untouched with baby items. Jason shook his head. "Where are the children then?" Jason asked Fairchild as they turned to each other. "Hey, Fairchild we found something!" One of the police officers screamed causing both Fairchild and Jason to sprint downstairs. They turned to the left this time and walked a little ways down the hallway to meet the other officer.

"What's wrong?"

They showed her the closet where Elizabeth's dead body stood on the hanger. Jason and Fairchild covered their nose from the smell.

She had been dead for awhile. "Fuck he just left her hanging here." The officer held his mouth. "Get forensics out here now. We still need to find any signs of Alyssa Sampson. Continue to search." Jason turned looking around the hallways to see another door at the end with several locks. "There. Is that a basement?" He ran over to the door to try to break it. "Give me something." He commanded Fairchild. "Stand back." She aimed her gun and shot the locks opened.

"Good shot." Jason opened the door to find the tool shed full of weapons. Jason grabbed his forehead. "Where is she?" He was beginning to lose hope as he walked through the kitchen. "Calm down we will find her Jason." Fairchild and Jason's head shot up as they heard a huge thud coming from below them. "What was that?" Fairchild pulled out her gun again as she listened. She began gesturing to Jason to remain quiet and listen. They walked backwards over some carpet and removed it to find a hidden door underneath.

Jason bit his lip hoping it was Alyssa alive but wanted to remain quiet as Fairchild opened the latch. They lowered themselves down the steps as quietly as possible. Then they heard the retching scream of a female with her mouth covered. "Alyssa!" Jason ran past Fairchild to the opening of the basement to see Alyssa tied to a chair on the ground as she tried to break the chair to get free. "Oh my God baby. Baby look at me." He helped her up as Fairchild began to cut her tie with her pocket knife.

Jason grabbed her cheeks. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry!" He kissed her hard with relief she was alive once he took off the tape. She kissed him back with salty tears falling from her eyes and her sticky lips from the tape. "I love you I'm sorry I didn't run after you. I saw your car and..." Alyssa grabbed his face and just kissed him as he tried to explain. "I knew you would come for me. It's Frank. He kidnapped me." She explained as she wrapped her arms around his neck.

"We know. That's why we are here. We need to get you out of here and get you checked out." Alyssa shook her head at Fairchild. "I just want to go home." Jason shook his head then. "You can't go home, Alyssa. Frank knows where you are and we can't protect you there. I need you to come back with me to the Sanders building and I can have the finest doctors to look at you." Alyssa winced at his request. "And how is your building any better than mines? Frank knows the place up and down. I think we should go back to my house."

Alyssa just wanted her bed and her couch. After all of this, she just needed to take a bath and relax. Jason looked at Fairchild for confirmation. She sighed, knowing the risk of agreeing. "Fine, but there will be two officers watching both of you at all times understood?" They both nodded as Jason helped her walk to the door up the stairs. "What happened to my car?" She asked, curiously. Jason laughed softly so glad she was safe as he pulled her close. "I will buy you a new car baby. One step at a time ok." He replied as they walked out of the hell house.
