All by himself, Max was at the training arena, quietly opening one of the cage doors. A second later, the Tabikat came out. Unlike the times before, she did not go for the attack when she saw the scrawny human standing before her. The blue dragon lowered her head towards Max, sniffing his face silently. He stared at her big green eyes. All he saw was hunger. He gave her a fish and let her roam around a little before putting her back in the cage.

The next cage Max opened up was the Guina. The juvenile dragon wagged its clubbed tail happily as it pounced on him. Petting the creature, Max sighed softly. He was doing this for two reasons. One, he wanted to have some alone time to think about what he was gonna do tomorrow. And two, he wanted to interact with the dragons, to prove to himself that they were indeed not the vicious killers that Vikings saw them as.

Next up was the Parakeen. Max knew that he was gonna have to make sure this one didn't escape. Surprisingly, the small dragon just crawled out of the cage and sat down eating the fish he gave it. The young Viking went to the Sphynx next. He held his breath, trying not to gag as the creature strutted out, flicking its long tail. When he opened the door for the Panthera, Max saw the beast trembling in fear. So he went over and gave the giant dragon some comfort.

At last, Max stood in front of the last cage. It held the only dragon that the class hadn't been allowed to face, the Halcon. He was gonna have to kill this one tomorrow. Standing in front of the door, Max trembled. He could hear the beast thrashing around, trying to escape. Silently approaching the door, Max didn't open it. He instead peered through a small hole.

A light brown eye looked back at him.

A chill ran up and down Max's spine. The Halcon was hissing and growling angrily while it backed away from the door. A moment later, there was a loud thud. It sounded like the dragon had tried to knock the door down with its own body. The beast yelped in pain and then fell quiet. Max sighed softly, knowing how the dragon felt. He wanted to be free.

Turning around, Max jumped with fright when he saw the shaman Ripper standing behind him.
