I awoke from the rays of sunlight lighting up the bedroom. My mind traveled from the vision of imagination to welcome reality, slowly erasing whatever dream from my memory. The daylight almost blinded me, and for a few seconds, I couldn't comprehend where I had woken up. That was until I could feel an arm around my waist, pulling me closer to his chest. Jaehyun.
"Good morning, beautiful," he whispered into my ear, kissing my cheek afterward. A feeling of warmth spread its way through my body and I greeted him in return.
I tried to push myself out of his embrace to go to the bathroom, but he was too strong, as always. "Just some more minutes, please," he protested and turned me around so that I hugged him as well.
We stayed like that for a while until we decided to make breakfast. After eating, I practiced a little bit more on my walking, and I had already gotten a lot better since last time. The morning went on, and soon we found ourselves in the kitchen, ready to make Christmas cookies.
As I was reading the recipe out loud for Jaehyun, he walked around in the kitchen to find everything we needed for the cookies. As we mixed it all together, he suddenly took some of the remaining dough on his finger and showed off a little smirk. Seconds went by as he was just looking at me with his finger pointing up in the air.
"You can eat it Jaehyun," I was saying before he cut me off by rubbing the dough off on my nose. I was taken by surprise and let out a little laugh, but he was not going to get out of his action without consequences.
The smile grew bigger on my face as I took some of the dough and clashed it on his chin. Jaehyun stood still and looked down at me for a couple of more seconds. Times like these, where our eyes would meet was the hardest for me to face.
As I was trapped inside his gaze, my whole body would become numb as well. His eyes were the most beautiful eyes I had ever seen in my life. They were so soft and understanding when I needed them to be, but also so playful and light when we were both happy and joyful.
You could really understand him through his eyes, they were filled with expression and passion as you look into them. And now, he was getting more serious as his face came closer to mine, and his lips whispered into my ear.
"So, you wanna play?" His smirk grew bigger as he was ready to throw more dough at me. My face flushed red by his closeness, and I moved away quickly to avoid his attack. The sudden adrenaline rush gave me more strength, and I managed to run to the other side of the kitchen island, though I had just started walking again.
"The game is on," I answered, as I threw the remaining dough in my hands at him. Now it was his turn to be taken by surprise, and I couldn't help but let out a big laugh by the look on his face.
He took the remains that were in the bowl and threw it on me. Both of us were covered in the brown dough as we laughed so much that my stomach started to ache. He finally had used up all the remaining dough in the bowl, and I, fortunately for me, had the chance to make the last attack, surprising him once again. Proud of myself, I started mocking him for losing against me.
Suddenly, he ran towards my side of the island, and I didn't manage to move away from him. He put both of his arms on either side of me, so it was impossible to escape. His smile grew even wider than before. "What? I won," I stated not so confidently, looking up at his playful eyes.
"Sweetie," he slowly raised one of his hands, "you shouldn't have celebrated so early," he said before he planted a big piece of dough in the middle of my face.
After our little dough fight, we cleaned up and decided we both wanted to watch a movie as we waited for the cookies to get ready. "I feel better today, the medicine that doctor gave me must have helped a lot," I said as I managed to walk by myself to the living room. "That's amazing, we must thank him with a cookie once they are done," Jaehyun said as he went to get some DVDs we had to choose between.
I was snuggling the blanket as I sat down in the big, grey sofa in the living room. My mind traveled back to when I was sitting down in the cold basement, and the fear I felt when I heard the noise of footsteps going down the staircase. It felt like a nightmare, just like how it feels like I'm in a beautiful dream now.
Sometimes I wonder if everything even is real. The thought of my parents leaving me and my brothers is something that I haven't been fully able to handle just yet. It doesn't feel like it has happened with everything else that has been going on right in front of my eyes. How come the people that raised their three children all their life, just leave everything they have ever known behind when things get a little harder?
My mind went back to reality when I heard Jaehyun come into the room with two DVDs in his hands. "I picked two Disney movies for you to choose from, I hope that's alright?" Jaehyun sits down beside me and holds up two movies in his hands.
It was either Cinderella or beauty and the beast. I chose beauty and the beast because it has always been one of my favorite movies. Jaehyun smiled at me and showed me his dimples before he put the disk in. "Oh, I almost forgot," Jaehyun said before he ran out of the living room, seconds later he was back with a bowl of popcorn in his hands and sat down beside me.
