Pillowtalk

It's funny how lately
I've been falling asleep
Holding a pillow.
They say it's comforting, they say it's like
Hugging your loved one.
Well, I'll tell you; it's nothing like it.
It doesn't have that irresistible smell
The smell of happiness
As you stick your nose to their neck
And smile from the knowledge
Of your favorite in the world scent.
It doesn't have that touch of skins
The connection
Because a touch is so much more
Than we think it is.
And finally, that pillow
You sleep with, well, it doesn't
Have a heartbeat.
It can't feel you, smell you, touch you, smile
It can't give you anything.
Yet here I am, and you as well,
Doing it.
Because falling asleep with someone on
Your mind
Is much worse than with someone else
In your bed.
And here is me saying it:
For now, you're a pillow.
And that's enough
Just for me to sleep.
