Dark Sugar

He marked me with bits of him
And left behind lots of habits
After i lost him.
I don't remember that day, but
The following morning,
My first goodbye was coffee.
That bitter taste
Ran through my throat
And cut my tongue
Like the words i said to him
The night before.
I started drinking coffee everyday
At first, the pleasure
Was unknown to me, i couldn't
Understand it.
I didn't like it, i didn't hate it...
I just did it because it helped.
Just like him
It kept me up through the day
And sometimes at night.
It was the first thing i woke up to
My first thought, first breath.
The smell, just like his,
Was actually tremendous.
The truth is, i still drink coffee...
But it doesn't hurt anymore.
Cause having you
Was the sweetest sugar
And the aftertaste
Lasts.
