~ Jungkook's POV ~
"Ernest... Hemingway...Ernest... Hemingway..." I mumbled the name of the author for my stupid assignment to myself as I scrutinized each and every book in the "E" section of the library shelves.
I was deliberately sliding my index finger on the bumpy surfaces of the perfectly aligned books, until my hand unexpectedly bumped into someone else's hand.
"Oh shoot, I'm so sorr-"
But as I moved the direction of my sight to the owner of the snowy white hand, my pulsation stopped for a second and my body transformed into solid stone.
It's her.
It's... my ex-girlfriend.
Immediately recognizing who I am, her petite body stiffened up as well.
I'm not gonna deny it, she's still stunning as ever.
but she was no longer the originating source of the sparks in my heart.
"Jung...kook...?" the voice I used to absolutely adore uttered my name, still in sheer shock.
After my palpitation subsided, I greeted her in the calmest manner possible, "H-Hey Yerim."
"You're... the new student... everyone's talking about?" she pointed at me haltingly, a mixture of incredulity and discontent evident in her tone.
Discovering that I am now the hot topic of everyone's conversations, I bounced my shoulders nonchalantly with a smirk on my face.
"I guess so."
Probably beginning to feel uncomfortable, Yerim displayed a crooked smile and laughed awkwardly, "Well, uhm, it's g-great to see you again!"
"See you around, Yerim." I gave a polite smile in return, then sedately walked past her with my fists in the pockets of my uniform pants.
Realizing that I can never find the damn novel on my own, I concluded that I should ask for help.
Scanning the library for the most companionable, nicest-looking individual, I identified one near the window of the room who appeared the least intimidating.
Taking small, diffident steps towards the slim dude who was engrossed in whatever book he was reading, I avoided scaring him and whispered quietly, "Excuse me."
The guy upraised his face in an unhurried way, his tranquil gaze now fixed on mine.
No homo, but he's a really good-looking guy.
"Can I help you?" he lifted his dark brows, full of concern and neighborliness.
"Yeah uhm, I'm looking for this book. Do you happen to know where I can find it?" I showed him the title of the book which I wrote down on a piece of torn paper, since I was way too lazy to memorize it.
"Oh, here." the generous dude handed me the book he had in his hands and added, "I just finished reading it anyway."
"Thanks. Jungkook by the way." I introduced myself casually, knowing that I'm going to need a dependable friend like him around me.
"Seokjin. But call me Jin." he grinned cordially, but we were soon interrupted by a high-pitched voice drawing near.
"Jinnie~ I can't reach the book at the top of the shelf~" this girl fussed, making Jin and I switch our focus of attention to her.
It was Yerim.
Unfortunately encountering her ex-boyfriend once again, a gasp of astonishment slipped out of her mouth as she hurriedly looked away from me.
"Sorry, I've gotta go and help my girlfriend." Yerim's new boyfriend said in an apologetic manner, standing up from his relaxed position.
"I like your hair by the way." Jin commented before separating, then left with his introverted girlfriend who was now obscuring her face behind his slender physique.
Not caring much about running into my ex, I strutted toward the librarian's desk with Jin's ego-boosting compliment lingering in my mind.
Well, I guess brown hair really is the trend right now.

~ The Next Day ~
"Alright class, take out your history textbooks and open it to page 686." Mrs. Ji, our senior history teacher, instructed and initiated the raucous noise of all the students flipping through their pages all at once.
And there I sat, my eyes enlarged and my heartbeat throbbing from dread.
Crap.
I forgot mine at home.
And of course, my teacher called on me at perfect timing, "Jungkook, will you please read the first paragraph?"
Though a million excuses that I always relied on at my old school popped up into my brain, I decided to be a honest and conscientious student for once.
But the moment I was about to open my lips to speak, a history book was swiftly passed onto my desk from the one beside me.
Taking a haste glance at the merciful savior, my chest warmed at the sight of Jin smirking coolly at me.
Before my teacher got suspicious, I began to recite the particular paragraph she directed me to read aloud.
After I was done, my teacher unfortunately stated, "Thank you Jungkook. Jin, please read the next paragraph."
"Sorry Mrs. Ji, I forgot my book at home." Jin lied for a stupid and scatterbrained kid like me, almost causing tears to form in the corners of my eyes from his heroic action.
"I expected more from you. I'll let you off with a warning this time, but please remember to bring it next time." Mrs. Ji sighed in disappointment, and Jin replied with a submissive "Yes ma'am."
A dragging, monotonous hour had passed, and the bell to release us to break reverberated through the halls at last.
Some students skedaddled out of the classroom like it was a race, and some remained back to stretch out their bodies and take their precious time to pack-up their necessities.
Turning to Jin without a second to waste, I returned his history book and immediately expressed my boundless gratitude for him.
"Thanks so much for earlier." I said as I clasped one strap of my schoolbag while I awaited for his response.
Zipping up his Herschel backpack, Jin arose from his seat and placed a hand on my shoulder.
"You owe me curry bread from the cafeteria." he gave me his signature smirk, his natural charisma penetrating right through my heart as if Cupid had shot an arrow into my chest.
Geez, he's so cool.
"Alright alright." I tried to behave composed, and I walked alongside my new best friend to the cafeteria.
