~ The Next Day ~
Today was definitely the loneliest day of my life that I've ever had to endure, now that my closest peers who I trusted most had all turned their backs on me.
Except, of course, Hana.
She's that one very special girl who I imprudently betrayed by making the idiotic decision of trusting the nonsense my ex-girlfriend had to say.
And I knew she deserved an apology for my reckless behavior.
Currently, another monotonous lecture of my last period was drawing near to its end, and this time, I was fully awake.
The very instant the dismissal bell rang at its usual deafening volume, I detected Hana hurriedly wearing her school bag on her back and attempting to charge out of the classroom.
But before she could pass by my presence, I securely grabbed her by her forearm and caused her to halt in her footsteps.
"Hana." I looked at her intently as I got up from my seat, not legging go of her skinny arm.
"W-What do you want from me?" Hana questioned in a dreadful and cautious manner, appearing like a traumatized girl who was encountered by a horrendous monster.
I mean it's not her fault for seeing me as one.
It was an unchangeable fact that I crudely yelled at her, castigated her, and said some pretty mean stuff to her for something that she didn't do.
Biting my lips to bear the sharp pain my chest, I pleaded feebly, "I just want you to give me a little bit of your time."
"For? I'm kind of busy after school." Hana stood her ground and exhibited her "tough" side, although her fears and sorrows were written all over her face.
Letting loose of my grip on her, I muttered in absolute shame, "For my apology."
As if she had been waiting for those words to be said for so long, her expression softened and she didn't run away from me.
"I know you didn't say anything to your friends about me being dumb, and I know now that you were telling me the truth all along." I disclosed my realizations, which I should've been aware of long before.
"And I'm sorry for not believing you. I should've known better."
Finally conveying my sincere thoughts and lifting an immense weight off of my chest, I anticipated Hana to slap me really hard across my face and say something like "I told you so!"
But instead, she took a placid step forward and enveloped me in her arms, giving me a forgiving, alleviating embrace.
And my brain, who wasn't expecting Hana to ever hug me first, triggered the alarm to wake up the entire population of butterflies residing in my stomach and caused them to panic hysterically.
"Jungkook, you know I'd never say such a thing. We may not act the nicest towards one another, but I do genuinely care for you with all my heart and I'd never betray you like that. Ever." she whispered while she laid her head on my shoulder, sending countless sparks throughout my body not only from her kind statement, but also from her enticing voice which was so close to my ear.
It was amazing how a person could stubbornly care for someone so much, regardless of what an ass he was towards her.
Meeting her and having such an incredible individual enter my crappy life were honestly the best things that's ever happened to me.
I just wish I'd met her sooner so I could've been the one she kissed at the aquarium.
"Me too, Hana. I-I care about you a lot more than you think." I hugged her back gently, feeling as if I was in seventh heaven.
And I'm secretly madly in love with you too.
But of course, I'm never going to tell her that.
"Who even told you about that stupid rumor anyway?" Hana unfortunately backed away, brimming with curiosity and eagerness to find out.
Palming my face in sheer embarrassment in my past mistake, I sighed disconcertedly, "Y-Yerim..."
Hearing the name of the culprit behind all this, Hana offendedly dropped her jaw and complained, "Are you serious? You really believed a girl that you literally just met over your best friend who you've known for a pretty long time now?"
Oh, right.
She doesn't know.
"Were you guys friends before? How did you guys become so close in such a short time?" she asked and crossed her arms like a little kid, clearly insulted over my shortsighted decision.
Ruffling my hair in indisposition to tell her, I groaned and grumbled, "Hana, I need to tell you something."
"What? What's your excuse?" Hana questioned as she raised an eyebrow with her arms still grouchily interlaced, expecting a very good and convincible reasoning.
Holding her by her shoulders with an unyielding grip, I gazed into her eyes in all frankness and seriousness.
"Yerim... is my ex-girlfriend."
~ Hana's POV ~
Oh. My. God.
It all makes so much sense now.
That's why Yerim knew that his studies were such a sensitive topic for him.
That's why she knew about his favorite cookie type.
That's why she seemed so acquainted with him.
Because she knew everything about Jungkook before I ever did.
While I was combining all the puzzle pieces in my head and was experiencing a major epiphany, a little voice in my head abruptly reminded me of something very important.
Gasping loudly, I held my head with both my palms and hectically panicked, "I totally forgot about my date with Taehyung after school!"
"Hey hey hey calm down, just tell him you were helping out a friend and he should understand." Jungkook attempted to pacify me, looking at me like I was some sort of maniac from my bewildering reaction.
"No you don't understand Jungkook! He's gonna kill me!" I objected frenziedly, because he has no idea what kind of person Taehyung is and what he's capable of.
I do believe I wholeheartedly love my boyfriend, but he possesses this contradicting side of him that I absolutely dread.
But right as I was about to take off, Jungkook impeded me yet again with a clasp on my hand.
"Wait, Hana."
Still managing to put up a facade that was nearly about to break, I faced him and asked composedly, "What?"
The genuine, concerned expression on Jungkook's face somehow made me feel so vulnerable, probably because he's one of the few people that I was entirely comfortable with and I could open up to completely.
"Are you alright?" he worried, making it really difficult for me to keep up with this masquerade I've been pulling off for the past months.
No, I'm not.
"Yeah, I am." I smiled falteringly, then left the classroom to where my boyfriend awaited.
