The island's waters were murky and gray.

Definitely not something pleasant to see.

Everything here was foggy.

It was as though I were walking through cursed land.

There was some dim light above seeping through the darkened clouds.

The air was cold.

Thank the seas. I could not stand the humidity otherwise.

And thankfully with the days that have passed, I have fully recovered from my wounds. I have a few marks and scars, but no matter. My body is mostly covered with them anyway from my childhood.

The crew has split up to the far north side of the mountain where the X mark has led us to. Others have gone to gather for supplies and materials. And the rest to explore and scavenge. We do not know if there are any inhabitants within close proximity of this island but we need to be wary in case we are met with unwanted guests.

As Rycan had gone with our crew in search of the treasure, Layalia stayed behind to guard the ship.

This island isn't as large as I had imagined.

It's filled mostly with curved rock formations, the color of charcoal and white. It is moistened at the touch. There is a forest of palm trees scattered throughout the land upon entry. From a distance, at first view, the island is about the size of a town of no more than several thousand people.

It curves to the sea in three separate layers of land and forest that is divided by water.

And the water only goes up to my ankles.

At the very back is a cove.

But it's size isn't that great.

From the view of the ship, we could see the cove high past the island trees.

The only thing I found quite exciting about this cove was that its color was very different from what I have seen before.

A darkened emerald.

It even glowed in small bright gleams upon the touch of the sun.

Fascinating.

"Captain," Layalia came from behind.

I turned around, my thoughts momentarily interrupted.

"Aye, what is the matter?"

Layalia hesitated.

"I'm just checking in on you. You're making the face again."

Blast this woman.

"What face?" I lied.

Instead of responding, she only gave me a dulled look.

Aye, I know.

No point in playing it off.

Best get to the point.

"I will go off on my own for a short while. I'll leave you to await Rycan's arrival with the crew." I started at last. For a moment I did not hear anything. I knew without looking at her, even as I kept my gaze on the island, that she did not like what she was hearing. Being my first mate and best friend, she obeyed any order I'd give but would question anything she felt would put my life at risk. Though no apparent danger appeared to be on the island as of yet, or within close proximity of us, I felt the odds are equivalent nonetheless.
