I opened my eyes and looked at Kivyein who's worrisome look never left me.
I glanced at his free hand and saw a glint of shine coming from his boot. He followed my eyes and suddenly his face lit up.
He knew.
Aye, good.
With his free hand, he took out the knife from his boot. A quick and swift motion. He cut off the tentacle that held his other arm and hastily aimed the pistol below, towards the others that were holding him.
If the first shot hadn't done it, then the second one surely sent the monster screeching loudly in pain. The sound was horrendous. A mixture between a high pitched scream and a mouth gurgling or choking with water.
Kivyein shot the tentacle holding one of my arms down, which luckily freed my other hand, the one with my cutlass. I wasted no lingering moment before I sliced and tore away at the remainder bits of the monster holding me down.
One.
Two.
Three.
Slicing and cutting back and forth, with great effort. Sparing nothing.
It's scream in pain grew louder.
But thank the heavens, because we were both free.
I could see Kivyein look towards me as we both began making our way to the surface. He rushed to my side to help push me forward. He pulled my arm and launched me up. Routinely he would keep this up, until we both made it.
I felt my vision grow just a bit blurry.
I needed air.
Fast.
Thanks to Kivyein, we finally made it.
We reached the surface and both caught our breath, with much struggle. I nearly choked as water breached through to my lungs.
"Zyrena!" I turned to look toward where the familiar voice was coming from.
Her familiar hazel eyes and short crimson hair stood out to me.
Layalia.
I exhaled in relief.
She stood on top of a wooden lifeboat with gold and navy rims around it and waved her hand.
I turned quickly to see where -
"You -" Kivyein started, inhaling with effort. He swam towards me and stopped just inches away.
"Don't ever do something as stupid as that again." He declared.
I grinned.
Which probably wasn't the best response.
"It worked. Didn't it?"
As if. I mean, just a little.
No one died...
He gave me a deathly look.
"Aye... sorry," I fumbled for words. "I was acting on impulse... I was afraid that someone was going to get hurt, badly."
"You did. Your arm is still bleeding. That's enough talk for now, come on." He insisted.
The both of us swam towards where Layalia waited.
I just noticed how heavy my body felt at that moment.
It felt like it weighed more than a couple hundred pounds.
