Yuri and Hyoyeon are laughing and cracking weird jokes when they enter the house but the moment they see who’s sitting on the couch watching TV with a dog on her lap, they stop joking around.
Hyoyeon excuses herself awkwardly and runs to the kitchen while Yuri sighs, sitting down next to her friend.
“Why are you still here?”
“I can’t be in my own house?” retorts Tiffany curtly without turning her eyes away from the TV screen.
“You can but that’s not why I asked and you know it,” replies Yuri calmly. She knows that Tiffany and Taeyeon are going through a rough patch so she tries her best not to get worked up or snap back at her friend. “I take it that she still hasn’t called?”
Tiffany shakes her head.
“Have you called her?”
“Why should I? She won’t talk to me, remember? There is no use calling her.”
Heaving another sigh, Yuri leans back and watches her friend. “Have you talked to Sooyoung?”
“No. I want to find out directly from her, not from her shrink. That’s not too much to ask, is it?”
“Well no but have you asked her?”
“Countless times.” This time it’s Tiffany who sighs. “I’m losing her. She doesn’t call let alone come look for me. Either she doesn’t care anymore or she’s tired of me or maybe she’s found someone else or…” She stops there, choking on her words as her eyes start to tear up. Quickly, she clears her throat and tries to maintain her composure.
“Oh come on. She is not like that. Your relationship is stronger than that,” Yuri says, side-hugging her best friend who’s fighting tears. “Maybe she just doesn’t know what to say to you. She’s the quiet type, remember? She shoulders everything alone.”
“But she has changed!”
“She has started to change, yes. But it will take more than a couple of years to change something that you’ve been doing since you were a kid, that has become part of who you are, your personality. Maybe something happened that she’s afraid to tell you about.”
“That’s exactly what I’m worried about. Maybe she met someone else and couldn’t tell me about it. Or maybe she doesn’t love me anymore and she…” Tiffany can’t hold her tears back anymore and she finds herself crying on Yuri’s shoulder.
Yuri quickly hugs her friend, patting her back gently to comfort her.
It’s indeed weird to see the two getting into an argument so huge that Tiffany has been staying in the ranch for nearly one whole month. For the past year—since their first anniversary—Tiffany has been dividing her time between the ranch and the city, alternating between staying at her own house and at Taeyeon’s penthouse. The last thing Yuri heard before this falling out happened was that Tiffany would be moving in permanently with Taeyeon and would only visit the ranch once a month. Seohyun even secretly told her that Taeyeon was researching world famous jewelers to make a custom, one-of-a-kind engagement ring for Tiffany. That’s why she believes that there must be a sensible explanation for Taeyeon’s sudden change of behavior, one that doesn’t involve cheating on her best friend or breaking up with her. Too bad she can’t exactly tell Tiffany about her faith in the blonde without ruining the engagement ring surprise.
