I woke up freezing with my entire body protesting it's night between two buildings. What was numbness from my position and what was from the cold, I had no idea but seeing a diner open I made my way over.

Ignoring the looks I got as I made my way over to the furthest corner booth I could find from the three other customers in the place.

A few minutes later the waitress came over giving me a once over before asking what I'll have. She didn't seem surprised by my order of just coffee and turned away in disgust. I did my best to ignore her as I went through my messages.

As expected, Lizzy was leaving messages every few minutes it seemed but now she got her mom leaving some as well. I still wasn't sure what I was going to do.

The battery symbol flashed across my screen letting me know it was down to 20%. I cussed under my breath realizing I didn't have any way of charging it. Normally i kept a powerband on me but I didn't grab it when I left Liz's.

I thanked the waitress for bring my coffee and asked her how many refills it came with. Just two she said sternly walking away in a hurry. I fought off the urge to say something when the bell sounded.

I didn't even look up till I heard my name called.

"Crystal? What in the world are you doing here?"

I blinked several times as I tried processing how Gena could possibly be standing besides me.

She was striking with her hair and makeup done to perfection. She wore a heavy trenchcoat that covered a dress suit. Her vibrant blue eyes sparkled as she gave me a warm smile.

"I-I- I was - ummm just getting coffee. " I stuttered trying to compose myself and failing miserably. "What are you doing here?"

She looked around the room as if expecting an audience, her grin growing wider "I stop in here regularly on my way to Lynn's. They have the best Denver omelet here, and they're never busy like Denny's or IHOP. You just discovered one of the best kept secrets in Seattle, my dear. Mind if I join you?"

I nodded as she took off her coat and gloves, setting them near the wall before setting opposite of me. Seeing another figure beside her I was startled by the waitress already here.

"We'll have two Denver's. Make sure the hashbrowns are extra crispy and white toast. Careful not to burn them. "

She said in a stick tone without even looking at the waitress. I opened my mouth to protest but she held up her hand stopping me.

You know who I am and what my line of work is so don't try giving me a story. I know better. Even without that you have the look of someone who just woke up less than ten minutes ago. Even the brick imprint on the side of your face is still visible. "

I closed my mouth not sure what she could possibly want, trying to feel the lines on my face. Shit, how embarrassing! She seemed to enjoy this.

"I just figured you didn't like me. Now all this..."

I tried sounding nonchalantly about it as I motioned between us but she wasn't buying it.

"Ah yes, yesterday. I wanted to talk to you then when you left but then my boyfriend called to tell me about how he screwed up yet again. I honestly have no idea why I even keep him around sometimes. Ling story short, I had to help him instead of talking with you. Now that I realized you didnt even have a place to stay, I should of left him to clean up his own mess.

I'm also sure Carol has said a lot about me. I'm also well aware of her little nickname for me. I've only tried to get along with her but she won't have it. Truth is, she has nobody but herself to blame. She has a good heart, maybe too good, but not the stomach for doing what needs to be done to get ahead. That's why I'm where I am and she is where she is. I won't apologize for being better at the job than she is. I keep hoping one day she'll surprise me. We need people who are not only devoted like her, but willing to do what's necessary. Every day we turn hundreds of men and women-
