My Dearest, Jasper,

Words cannot express the depth of my love for you, and the intense, hollow, emptiness that has haunted me since your departure. Sometimes, when the weight of it all feels too great for me to bare, I go back to that day in the garden. The garden where a beautiful young man, still boyish in so many ways, untouched by the cruelty of this world, proclaimed his undying love for me on bended knee. You see, All of my Memories keep you near. In silent moments I imagine you being here. All of my memories keep you near, in silent whispers, silent tears...
We hope this letter finds you well, and unharmed.
We anxiously await for your return,
We love you so very much.
May the strength of our love for you carry you home to us.
Be safe, Daddy.

Forever yours,
Nolana"

"Mail call!" Yelled private Hicks, as he rummaged through a brown leather satchel. He pulled out many envelopes at a time and began reading the names out loud. "Let's see, we have...
Watling!
Ferdinand!
Brown!
Whitlock!"
Jasper reacted to his name and walked up to collect his letter. He could smell the honeysuckle seeping through the envelope. "My girl" he beamed. His vibrant smile cut through all the dirt and neglect that coated his body, letting his rugged beauty shine through.
He held the letter close to his nose and breathed in her scent deeply, painting a perfect, beautiful picture of her in his tired mind. before he could make a single tear in the envelope, a lower ranking private desperately burst through the curtains of the tent. "ITS OVER!! The WAR!! LEE SURRENDERED!" Jasper quickly stuffed the letter into his left inner breast pocket as the tent erupted with outrage. "IT CANT BE TRUE!"
"Everything that we suffered through!! ALL FOR NOTHING?!!"
Jasper stood up and attempted to calm his fellow soldiers.
"Men, please." He said gently.
Jasper always had a talent for commanding a room.
"Listen...We knew from the start that this was a long shot, but for four long years I've seen some of the best men I ever knew perish senselessly on the battlefield. Others, broken beyond repair, missing limbs, and scarred. I for one am glad that this is over. Now isn't the time to fret over things that we cannot change. Now is the time to go back to our wives, our children, our loved ones, and begin to rebuild what's left of our lives. You've all fought so valiantly, and I'm damn proud to say I've fought alongside each and everyone of you. I don't know about you, but I'm tired. I'm going home, to my Nolana..."
"Well said Major!"
"Here! Here!"
And with that, the men gathered up their bruised pride and the rest of their belongings. Jasper gathered up what little he had, and wasted no time mounting his chestnut brown horse.
"Come along, Caliber...let's go home."

Night fell quickly as Jasper made his way closer and closer to his beloved Nolana.
'Not long now...5 miles maybe' he thought. He licked his dry, cracked lips, dehydrated by the unforgiving Texas heat. He reached for the canteen resting by his hip, and shook it.
"Damn....empty." He sighed. He listened closely, remembering that somewhere near by was a river where he could rest and quench his thirst. He could hear the gentle roars of the rushing water and Caliber instinctively moved toward the sound. "You're thirsty too, huh partner?" He chuckled. Letting his faithful horse lead him to their relief.
As he came upon the river. The large full moon blanketed the area in a subtle glistening glow that glittered on the water. Along the rocks of the riverbank, he could see what looked to be 3 ghostly shadows moving in the moonlight. They looked like women but their movements, so graceful and angelic, seemed almost otherworldly. His first thought was to stay silent, fill his canteen, and leave, but there was something strange about these figures. Something alluring....Irresistible.
"Excuse me? Ladies? Do y'all need some help?"
