"WHAT IS THIS?....WHY HAVE YOU DONE TO ME?!" He screams, as his blood boils beneath his jaw, and spreads slowly to his shoulder. "I hope you survive...You will be of great use to me..." hissed the mysterious demon woman. Jasper scream's in agony as he forces himself up, on his feet. He grabs Caliber's reigns and leaps into his saddle. He dares not look back at his attackers. Her words echo in his mind as he rides, coaxing his horse harder and harder, going as fast as he can. He thinks of screaming for help in his desperation, the pain won't stop! It's moving into his arm now, scorching his very soul. He knows that there's nobody around for miles, screaming is useless. 'I have to make it home!' He knows he has to reserve his energy, he can already feel himself becoming hazy from shock. It's moved to his hand now, his veins pulse violently as he struggles to keep hold of the reigns. 'Whatever it is, it's traveling...I have to try to slow it down.'
He pulls on Calibers reigns and comes to a halt. "Steady boy!" He growls as he takes Nolana's handkerchief and ties it tightly around his wrist, like a tourniquet.
His body trembles violently as he tries to keep a clear head. "Ok, focus...don't panic...it'll only accelerate your heart rate." Through the searing, mind numbing pain, he pictures Nolana. He can see her standing at in the doorway of their home, waiting for him. "I didn't survive 4 years of hell just to give up now. I will make it home to you.."
he hisses through gritted teeth. He digs his spurs into Caliber, and begins to pick up speed again. "I'm not dying out here!"

(YOUR P.O.V)

It's getting so late, but sleep is the last thing on your mind. "Daddy will be back within a day or two, little one, the war is over now." You feel another flutter, almost as if your baby is responding to you. "He's probably on his way right now...I can't wait for you to hear his voice." The flutters become stronger as if the little life inside you understands your every word. You gaze longingly at the beautiful mahogany cradle, and the little pink and blue blankets draped over the side of it. "I can't wait to hold you my little darling..." You lean back in your rocking chair, feeling more contented than you've ever felt in your whole life. True happiness. Your eyes begin to feel heavy as you rock, and with your hand still cradling your growing belly, sleep finally finds you.

Suddenly, you're jolted awake by a hideous clamor outside, the exhausted snorts of an overrode horse, accompanied by an insidious animalistic growl. You stand abruptly and grab a pistol you keep high on the rafters in case of emergencies. You cautiously creep toward the window and peek out. There, standing at the end of the dirt path leading up to the house, stood the unsteady silhouette of a man on horseback. "Jasper?..." you whimpered, almost in disbelief.
The horse collapses to the ground, dragging the lifeless rider down with it into the dirt. "JASPER!!!" You shriek, as you quickly run out the door and to his side.
He's so pale, so cold, his hair and clothes are wet with sweat. "Oh Jasper! Darling!..." you fight back the tears as you struggle to pull his leg from underneath the poor deceased Caliber. "HELP!!! HELP!!" You scream, frantically, for what felt like forever. Luckily, a neighbor, Sam Carlton, from a house down the road heard you, and swiftly ran to your aid. He placed two fingers on Jaspers neck, and paused. "He's alive...his pulse is weak but it's there. I'll help you get him inside Mrs. Whitlock." He says reassuringly. "Oh, Thank you, Sam!..i
Is he alright!?" You sob, shakily. Sam hoists Jasper onto his broad shoulders and carries him almost effortlessly into the house, and lays him on the bed. You rush to his side, almost hysterical. "Is he breathing! Is he going to survive this?!?" You sobbed.
"I don't really know what's wrong with him Mrs. Whitlock. That left leg is definitely broken, but that's most likely from falling off that horse." Sam leans in and inspects Jasper a little closer.
"A-Ha! See! Look here Mrs. Whitlock." He moves the collar of Jaspers shirt to reveal two puncture wounds to the neck.
"Mmhmm...chills, sweats, Ma'm I do believe the Major has been bitten by a snake."
"A snake? In the neck??"
"Well Mrs Whitlock, Rattlers are known to hang from tree branches...that's exactly what's wrong, I'd bet my last dollar."
"Oh dear, My poor Jasper....will it kill him."
"I don't know...I'll run down to Dr. Tarletan's, and bring him here to ya. Don't fret now, I'll be quick as a whip." He says reassuringly, as he rushes out the door.
Jaspers slow raspy breaths become weaker and weaker.
"Please, my love, you can't leave me now... please don't die." You cry, as you remove his boots. You gently remove his wet clothes, and drape them over the rafters, and cover him with a quilt.
As you lean down to kiss his forehead, you notice his extended veins, his beautiful lips once a petal pink, have lost all color.
You take his hand into yours, they're so cold. "Hold on, the Doctor is on his way. You'll be alright, I promise!"
