As he walked along the dirt path leading up to his house, he couldn't help but reflect on the years that had passed, the years he spent alone living with what he did.
When he found Alice, she gave him something he hadn't had in a long time. Hope.
Even though a part of him would always love Alice, she was never able to replace you in his heart. The moonlight cascaded across his perfect features as he walked through the misty forest. He felt as if he had drifted back in time, like he was finally coming home to you after the civil war had ended. He began to feel your presence as he inched closer and closer to the front door. Confusion, disappointment, fear, anger....he felt it all, there were no lights coming from the house except for one, the upstairs bedroom. He made his way up the steps, and followed the glow down the hall, he began to feel shocked, saddened, and his heart began to race. He quickened his pace and found you standing by his bookcase, holding a navy blue hardback book.
"After all these years...you kept all this..."
you trembled.
"Yes..." within seconds, you were in his arms again. He glided his hand over your cheek and ran his fingers through your hair, his golden eyes gazed deeply into yours "You have no idea how long I've mourned this face..." he whispers, as he places his thumb on your lips. "Still as beautiful as ever, Nolana..."
You break away from his mesmerizing eyes, trying to gather yourself.
"Let go of me Jasper...I could never forgive you! Not after that night! Not after what you've done!" He grabs your face a little more forcefully, not enough to hurt you, but strongly enough to make you look at him.
"Do you honestly believe I would ever take your life on purpose? I would have rather died, myself than to hurt you. You or..."
"Clara..."
He paused, in shock. You wrestled away from his grasp and walk toward the large window. You look out at the bright full moon, and reflected on all the events that lead you here. "A girl?.." he whispered "Yes...we had a daughter..." the words burned as they slithered up your throat. You knew exactly what you wanted before coming here...but now you're not so sure. "I can't kill you...Jasper.." you sighed
"That's all I've thought about for so long...getting even, and hoping I would meet my own death soon after. That's all that motivated me to keep going, was the chance to avenge my daughter...Now that I realize that I can't do that, what else do I have? What is left for me?..." you said, hopelessly.
"Why didn't you kill me then? If it would've satiated you, then I would gladly atone for what I've done." He takes your hand and falls to his knees before you.
"Take it, take your revenge. I can't bare another minute of feeling your pain. Especially knowing that I'm the one who caused it..."
he looked so ethereal, yet so childlike in a way. His deep amber eyes looked so different from the soft blue that you grew to love so dearly, but he was still your Jasper underneath it all.
"I'm weak I suppose..." you said kneeling, as well.
"I guess deep down, I still care about you..."
His eyes softened as he cupped your face in his hands. He leaned in, and pressed his lips against yours. You didn't resist him. His scent, so familiar, yet so strange. The taste of his mouth brought back so many complicated emotions. He felt them too. In that moment he didn't care about anything, not the years that distanced you, not Alice, or the Cullens. It's as if his heart had been laying dormant for over a hundred years, and seeing you, being with you had brought him back to life. His tongue skimmed across your bottom lip, pleading for entry. You parted your lips and wrapped your arms around his neck, a wave of desire overtook you, and he reacted to your emotions, reciprocating that fire. You tangled your fingers in his sandy blonde hair, as he pulled you closer.
"I've missed you, so..." he whispered breathily, between locking his lips with yours. You rose up and straddled his legs, gliding your long eager fingers under his shirt and up his rippled, muscular back.
"I want to feel you again." You moaned, as he moved his mouth from your lips to your jaw. He slowly trailed gentle wet kisses down your neck, and in the heat of your passion, a sudden panic hit you out of nowhere. "Stop!" You breathed sharply, pushing him away, and standing abruptly. "Don't kiss me there....don't ever touch me there..." you hissed shakily. He felt it too. Your fear. He sat still on the floor, watching as you wrapped your arms around yourself protectively.
"I have to leave. I can't do this..." you said, still trembling. You grabbed your bag laying on the bed and made your way toward the door. "Nolana, wait!" He called, following close behind.
"I'm sorry, Jasper. I'll leave you in peace." You said, grabbing the front door knob.
He placed his hand on the door to stop you from opening it. "Please don't leave like this." He pleaded. Suddenly, you heard the rhythmic thumping of padded feed against the forest floor, faint at first, but growing louder as whatever it is moves swiftly in your direction. A deep howl echoed through the trees.
"What is that?..." you whispered
"Oh great...Now what." he huffed.
