I accidentally deleted this chapter. So, if it seems rushed that's because I rewrote it over in annoyance.
The next day, I awoke ready with my mission. The plan was to drive up to Astoria Queens and find Asia's family. If Asia wasn't really missing, then her family should know of her whereabouts. I thought about telling Unknown, but it just felt like a bad idea. This totally goes against our agreement. However, this is the last time I will keep him out of anything. I need to find Asia for myself after all she's my friend.
My only issue was foxy, I didn't want to leave her in the house or with my mother she is after all my responsibility. I decided to take her with me and leave her in the car. With foxy in my arms, I strolled out of the apartment. Walking out of the lobby and nearly bumped into tall man.
"Hello, watch out." I snapped. This guy almost ran into me.
"Aeon, where are you going?" Ashton said looking down at me from with his shades.
"What are you doing here and aren't you supposed to be mad at me?"
"No, I wanted to see you. I need to talk to you."
"Well, it's going to have to wait, I'm busy."
"Busy like how?"
"It doesn't concern you. As a matter of fact, here." I place foxy into his arms. "Watch Foxy I will be back soon. You can wait inside my apartment, I'm sure you know the code." I said walking out of the lobby.
I hopped into my jeep and made my way to Astoria. The drive took at least 37 minutes. From around the corner I could see the brick house not a soul was in sight an eerie feeling came over me. I've come way too far to turn back now. At that moment my phone light flickered indicating that I received a text message from someone. I glanced at my phone and it was unknown. Right on time, I thought to myself.
"Hey what are you too?"
"I can't talk right now, I'm busy."
"OK, so I'll ask again what you are doing?"
"If you must know I'm scoping-out a house."
"Scoping out whose house?"
"I can't tell you that."
"Are you forgetting I can track you. Therefore, I think it makes sense for you to just tell me."
I let out a deep breath in frustration, "I'm at the Smart family house I got to go."
My phone flashed a few dozen more times but I ignored it and got out the car. From the side window, I can only see boxes in the living room. The living room was completely empty smashing the window with a rock, I used black sweatshirt to put over the rim and crawled into the house. The boxes contained papers and old family pictures every single one of these photos there wasn't any picture or Asia. At least any pictures that look like her yeah, they were little girls, but they look nothing like her; these girls looked nothing like her.
The was empty bottles of water and yogurt contains inside. Which seems like someone was here not too long ago. I went upstairs and all the rooms upstairs were completely empty like the family had just moved out. I decided to check my phone because I felt so confused and annoyed like I wasted my time.
"Aeon, I told Ashton he's on his way. Please get out of that house. That's no Asia's family. My heart dropped at his last words. This isn't Asi's family. Then who is her family and who's house is this? I walked back down the steps and saw a basement door cracked open a little. It took the silver knob and slowly opened the door. This is the only place I didn't check. I know I should heed Unknown warning but why would Asia lie about her family. I need to investigate all aspects of this place before I leave. As I opened the door slowly the sounds of the rusty hinge made sweeping noise causing my heart to deep fast. A woman ascends from the darkness I fell back on the floor fright. After a moment of being terrified, she offered me her hand and I got a good look at her it was Asia. In her hands was a thin white envelope.
"Asia. What's going on?"
"I know you have a lot of questions. But I don't have enough time to explain," She said in a calm voice. "Take this envelope and tell no one you have it and tell no one you saw me. That envelope holds the answer to everything you wish to know."
"All right. But what about you?
"Don't worry about me. Once you've read the contents of that envelope. You will know what to do next."
Asia said nothing else and returned back into the dark basement. I crawled outside of the window. Where I came face to face with an enraged Ashton. He honestly looked like an angry father and I was the guilty, mischievous child. Ashton grabbed my arms and practically dragged me to the car. "You're hurting me."
He ignored me and instead manhandled me into the passenger's side. "Stay," he warned.
"Aren't you supposed to be watching Foxy?" I asked hoping to change the conversation.
"She's sleeping in the back seat." I glance over my shoulders to the fluffy ball fast asleep.
"Aeon what the hell is wrong with you? Do you have a death wish?"
"No."
"You shouldn't do these things alone, you're not invincible?"
"I just wanted to find Asia," I mumbled turning my head to face the window.
"Well, that's not Asia's real family. I figure that out a while back. Look at me?"
"You could have told me."
"Did you find anything out of the ordinary in that house?"
"No," I said staring into Ashton's green eyes. "It's like everyone moved out," I said quickly turning my head away. I felt bad about lying to him. But this is the first break, I've got from doing my own independent investigation and I'll be dammed if he gets in my way. Seeing Asia in that house only created more questions. But there are always three sides to a story; the two sides and the truth. So, I've had the "luxury" of being spoon-fed one side. I need to know what Asia knowns and I only get that for Ashton.
"I can drive myself back home too."
"You can. But I'm going to have somebody pick it up." Ashton, I don't know if you dumped you head as a child, but you are not my boyfriend. I can take care of myself and I am sorry to tell you this but I'm with somebody else."
He took a deep breath and gripped the steering wheel tightly before releasing it. "That's never going to happen again. I'm going to win you back." He exclaimed.
"We slept together though." I admitted boldly.
"I don't care." He countered quickly with attitude.
"We are not together, Ashton."
"We can start over and I'll make you forgot about him." He said in a calm voice. "So, I'm going to Club Lights for business. Do you want to come?"
"No, I'm tired."
"Alright then."
"Since, we're in the car what did you want to talk about?"
"I'll tell you another time. I'm still upset with you."
"Fair." I simply said.
That afternoon, I still felt horrible about lying to Ashton. The stunt I pulled today probably turned him off from me. But it had to be done. He keeps everything from me. I opened the envelope that Asia gave to me and read the contents inside. I plugged in the silver flash drive. A video image appeared in the scream tear ran down my face as I walked fear.
Everything, I've been told was a lie and I knew, I had to kill a certain someone.
