exuberant -
like being cheerful, but even stronger"bella. hello. bella!" i was startled. "huh?" i asked confused as to where i was. "your food has been sitting there for five minutes and you haven't even touched it," my mom told me while slightly laughing.
i then started eating my food and talking with my mom once again. she knew what i was doing because it always use to happen to her right when my dad died. so, she didn't ask anymore because she already knew what it was about.
i set down my burger and had a sip of my soda. suddenly, a whole bunch of boys came stumbling into the diner.
i looked to see who they were, but too many of them came in all at once. out of the corner of my eye, i saw a guy walking over to our table.
it wasn't a waiter though, it was one of those boys who had come in the diner. then he stopped at our table and had a big smile plastered on his face.
"hey bella. how ya been?" he asked while looking between my mom and i. "oh, hey two-bit. i have been doing well. and yourself?" i asked, using my manners.
i was surprised he even remembered my name. i mean, he seemed to be very out of it the night before. "i am doing just fantastic!" he practically yelled.
my mom and i looked at each other and slightly laughed. "oh two-bit, this is my mom. mom this is one of my new friends i met when i went on a walk one evening," i told her, lying.
"it is lovely to meet you miss?" he questioned holding out his hand. "mrs. frey. it is lovely to meet you as well, mister?" she said as she shook his hand.
"mr. mathews." he told her with a proud smile. they exchanged a quick smile and then his buddies started calling him over and he had to go back.
"well isn't he nice," my mom said somewhat surprised. "what were you expecting?" i questioned as i took a bite of my burger.
"well you know, we are greasers. usually a lot of them are not too good of people and don't have manners like he does." i mean she wasn't wrong.
the other guy, darry, was nice as well. so, maybe they weren't all bad like my father, but i knew at least some were. we finished eating and decided to split a milkshake in the end.
i wish i could have more times like these with my mom, because i knew this was not going to happen again for awhile. so, i wanted to make the most out of it.
we laughed so much that the manager had to come over and tell us to quiet down, i mean we almost got kicked out. some tears were spilt out of our eyes every here and there and we were having just an amazing time in total.
my mom looked down at her watch and hadn't realized how long we were at the diner for. we got up from the booth and went to go pay.
i was standing next to my mom when i saw her waving to someone. i turned around and saw it was two-bit.
i smiled and waved right back at him. i saw some all of his other friends stuffed in a booth. some looking at me and i just smiled back at them.
there was one boy though. when i looked at him we made eye contact, and i swear his eyes sparkled. he gave me a slight smile and i gave him one back. i quickly then looked away feeling my cheeks turning warmer.
we soon paid for the meal and headed on home. i almost fell asleep in the car because of how late it was.
school was about to start in a month and i was not excited, nor ready. i wanted to make friends but, were they going to judge me because i acted real and not fake? i wanted to finally embrace who i really was.
maybe the socs would, but i hope in hell not the greasers.
