c h a p t e r 10

the pride that comes from knowing that you are loved no matter what

"why are you out here anyways?" i asked realizing how late it had been. "i just needed fresh air." he said kicking a rock out of his way. i nodded.

then he asked me what happened to my face and i had told him all about it. we arrived and he opened the gate for me and the door as well.
the house wasn't loud like how it was when i was over for dinner not too long ago. just the tv was on a low volume and it seemed the other brothers were already in bed.

"you can sleep on the couch or the chair or in my bed, but my brother and i share a bed so it might be awkward." he told me. i kind of laughed.

"i will be okay out here." i told him sitting on the couch. i pulled out my book and started reading. "hey you like gone with the wind?" pony asked before walking away.

i nodded and then we had a nice long conversation about our favorite books and why we liked them so much.

it was nice to have some new friends, especially like ponyboy. we had so many things in common with each other.

i guess i had fallen asleep while we were talking because when i woke up, someone was coming quietly through the door.

i was crunched up in a ball when i fell asleep and i had a blanket on me. since it was pitch black i couldn't see anything except a tall guy. he walked around me and sat on the other end of the couch.

the couch wasn't that big so i felt his hand on my leg. the curtains on the window were slightly open and the moon was shining pretty bright tonight, so i think he could of slightly saw my face. i kept my eyes closed acting as if i was asleep. "oh hey, it's that cute broad." he said.

it was dally. i tried my best not to smile even though inside i was smiling. then everything went quiet again and i fell right back asleep.
i woke up to some noises coming from the kitchen. i sat up and rubbed my eyes. it was darry making some breakfast.

i looked next to me and dally was still there. i smiled. "hey bella." he said noticing i was up. "hey darry. i'm sorry for staying the night. my mom kicked me out for the night and pony saw me at the park and invited me to stay at your house for the night, so actually thank you for that." i said getting up and going over towards the kitchen.

"hey it's no worries here. we always got someone staying here." he said pointing to dally. i laughed and looked at him. he looked so peaceful when he slept.

"morning darry. oh and bella." i turned around to see sodapop standing there. i smiled and waved at him. darry finished making breakfast and then headed to work. i picked up my book and started having my eggs.

"man your just like my kid brother." sodapop said. i looked up and laughed. "and how is that?" i asked setting my book down. "you guys always have your faces stuffed in a book. i don't get how you don't get bored from reading so damn much." he said shaking his head. i just laughed and went back to reading.

soon steve came over and soda and him had to head to work. dally finally woke up.
"rise and shine." i said turning around. he stood up and stretched. "where's the eggs?" he said walking to the kitchen.

i pointed towards them and he put some on a plate and sat back on the couch. we talked for a little while but then he soon left.

i went to the bathroom and looked at my cheek. it wasn't that bad for anyone to really notice, but i still looked like a wreck.

i somewhat fixed my hair and washed my face. i went back to the kitchen to see the time. it was 11:45 and i decided it was time to head back to hell-i mean home. i went to pony who still was asleep and then i quietly left the house.
