Liv
At the mall Ashley and I find a few tops and I even bought a nice summer dress even though summer was still far away, it was just so cute I couldn't pass it up, plus it was on sale.
We end up meeting up with Adam when we're done a couple hours later. He had sent me a message that he met up with a friend.Adam hadn't since said much since we got in the car but seems to be in a happy mood. Smiling and singing along to the radio.
"So who did you end up meeting up with?" I finally ask Adam once we've dropped Ashely off, turning the volume down.
"Angela." He gives me a side glance before looking back to the road as I turn to look at him.
"Angela? Really? I didn't know you guys were friends. I didn't know she had any friends."
"Hey, that's not a cool thing to say, Liv." Adam scolds and regret what I had said and how rude it was.
"Sorry, I didn't mean anything by it." I bite my lip and look forward. "I just never see her talk or hang out with anyone."
"Ya, I don't think she does. I ran into her and I asked her if she wanted to hang out." His voice is pitchy and I bring my eyes back to him.
The way he's grabbing the steering, the tint in his cheeks, his jaw muscles working to fight a smile."Wait, do you like her?" The shock is present in my voice.
He shrugs, eyes not leaving the windshield.
"Oh my goodness. You do!" I squeal.
"I don't know, Liv. It's the first time we've ever hung out. Plus people are wrong about her, she's actually really nice."
"She's also super gorgeous, but I'm sure you already knew that." I tease.
"I may have noticed." He smiles "Speaking of people we like, have you spoken to James today?" He's quick to change the subject.
"No and he hasn't messaged me either, so." I know I sounds whiny but I can't help it.
"So what? It's the 21st century Liv you can message the guy first, after a date."
I don't say anything.
Truth is he had said he would message me when he got home last night and never did.
I thought we had a good time and that he really liked me but maybe I was the one that really liked him and read too much into it."What's wrong?" Adam asks clearly reading me well.
"He said he would message me last night but never did, that's all. Maybe he didn't have as good a time as I thought." I voice my previous thoughts to him.
"I find that hard to believe I spoke with Josh and I know James likes you. Maybe something happened when he got home." Adam turns to look at me and dread instantly fills my insides. I hadn't even thought of that. I was so high on the happy that I didn't even let my mind go there. But what if Adam's right.
"I'll message him when we get home." My mind starts reeling. "Now I'm worried."
"Sorry Liv, I shouldn't have said that. I don't know why I did."
He said it because it could be true and we both knew it.
Inside the house my dads office door is closed so we know he's still in there working. I decide against going to say hi to him and bolt upstairs instead.
I shut my bedroom door behind me and dump the few shopping bags on the floor. I pull out my phone as I sit on my bed.
Looking down at the screen I realize my hands are shaking. Please be ok. The words play over in over in my mind as I type out a message to him.
Liv- Hi. I didn't hear from you last night. Hope you got home ok and everything is good.
