Chapter 7 | Sophia's Request

Elpis was on her way towards noble consort Grace quarters when she heard a group of maids talking about the situation at Galatea Palace in general. She finds it amusing to listen to them, guessing what exactly is going on with her way of dealing with her concubines. Elpis made sure to conceal her presence from being seen as she listened in.

"Do you think the empress will pick another concubine? Because I wouldn't mind being in the harem if this how she treats them; with gifts and rewards. And not to mention how they don't have to show any respect to those from the main palace. They must've got the best living situation compared to the main palace harem." Elpis shakes her head while she listened to the young maid.

"You think the empress will even bet an eye for a nobody especially like us? She only has her eyes on a woman from prominent families with a good upbringing. We're nothing compare to them on so many levels. Even the low-rank concubines either came from a good family background." Elpis was about to leave the maids when something caught her attention when they mentioned the imperial consort.

"That is not true. I heard that the former high consort was a prostitute. And consort Margaux was a dancer. They're not from a prominent family." The young maid was being glared at by her senior.

"Really?! Wait, the empress had a high consort?  Also, does anyone here know where did the imperial consort was born? She was brought here by the empress herself. Other than that, no one knows who she is." Elpis was waiting for the maids to revealed what they thought of Virtra.

"I heard that she's a princess of a ruined kingdom. The empress saved her from the brink of death and made her the legitimate wife." Elpis chuckled mentally.

"Really? I heard that she's a prostitute that was lucky enough to win the empress favour." Elpis was having a hard time controlling her laughter.

"I was told by one of the empress's advisors that the imperial consort is the daughter of an emperor from a faraway empire. The empress goes through a lot to win her heart. In other words, if empress Elpis is a man, the imperial consort becomes the empress because of her status alone." Elpis was surprised they managed to get it right in the end.

She decided to leave the hiding spot and continue her journey towards Grace's quarters. When she entered the noble consort's room, she can't help but smile from ear to ear. Grace noticed this.

"Why are you smiling? Did something exciting happened before you came here?" Grace was putting on her nightgown. Elpis noticed this and decided to stand behind the noble consort.

"I wonder how did the maids manage to find out that used to have a high consort. Those young maids even figured out Virtra's real identity. I find it funny when they speculate the truth about Virtra." Elpis wrapped her arms around the noble consort as she gave her a back hug.

"Did you had a rose bath? Are you trying to seduce me?" Grace smirked.

"I have a request." Elpis chuckled.

"What? You wish to become a mother?" The noble consort was surprised.

"How did you know?! Did the consorts opened their mouth again?" Elpis shakes her head no.

"I was there when you asked Virtra about experiencing the journey towards motherhood. Grace, do you wish to go through the whole process yourself by having an intimate moment with a man, or would you like to adopt?" The noble consort was speechless because she doesn't have the answer to that question yet.

"If you wish to have the full experience, and if there's a need for you to find a man to sleep with, I can't lie to myself that your action will hurt me. I am hurt when I knew Delphine slept with another person when I was away. It pains me greatly to know that my love, my sincere love was not enough for her to believe in me." Grace can feel the sadness in Elpis's voice.
