ELPIS'S POV
"Did you saw how one of the princes looking at Bella? And the princesses, they were at awe upon seeing me." I smiled at my wife.
"Perhaps they are jealous of your assets. I'm just lucky that someone as beautiful as you are mine." Virtra glared at me for not being serious with her.
"Elpis I'm serious now. We're currently in Altus. This kingdom is the second strongest after the Empire. Sure, the queen does look like the exact copy of the first empress, but what if it was just a coincidence? What if this kingdom rulers knew how the first empress looked like and tried to take advantage of us by using the first empress's name?" I shake my head, no.
"That woman is legit my mother's little sister. My father ever told me that back when I was just born; there was a woman who almost strangles me to death. He added that if that person hugged me, my body would gradually remember that time where I almost die." And sure enough, my mind unconsciously remembered that dark moment in my life.
"Besides," I smiled before facing my wife.
"I get to hug my 'mother'. Yes, I know she's not my birth mother, but they shared the same facial and blood. I've been long to hug my mother, Virtra. That is part of the reason why I came to Altus. To see this woman who claimed to be my aunt." I watched as my wife grabbed a cloth and wiped the tears from my cheek.
Was I crying? I didn't even notice it.
"I know. I noticed that you went to the mausoleum almost every day after the death of the empress dowager. Do you blame me for beheading that woman?" I shake my head, no.
"That woman deserves all the punishment you see fit. I never regret anything that you've done for me. It's just; there's always a time where I find complete peace as I watched over my parent's gravestones. It's like they're there, listening to my worries and complaint." Virtra suddenly gave me a peck on my lips.
"Trust me, my dear wife. They're there, watching over the Empire." Huh?
"Anyway, it's almost time for dinner. Let's get ourselves ready." I nodded. We decided to look for the rest of my concubines after getting ourselves ready. They bow upon seeing us from afar. I smiled when they heeded my commands and wore their official headdress for dinner. I turned to Virtra, who wore my mother's.
"That headdress symbolised the power of an empress possessed in the Empire. My father bestowed this headdress to my mother because he wants everyone to know that my mother possessed the power to rule and that exactly what you've been doing, Virtra. Not just you, everyone here helped me to be the ruler I am today. Your headdress symbolised your identity to the Empire. Everyone should bow to you." The delegate from before appeared behind me.
"Your highnesses ..." He was surprised to see my concubines wearing an official headdress.
"Please forgive this servant! I ...," He dropped to the floor, kowtows while asking for forgiveness. Is it because I decided to wear my father's crown?
"Rise, servant. There's no need to be scared of us. Please lead us to the dining hall. I'm sure our host has been waiting for us." The delegate nodded. Our presence means something and the servants of the royal palace knows that we're here not only to meet the queen.
From what Virtra has told me, the firstborn prince of Altus and the firstborn princess of the Desert Kingdom betroth to one another. From this dinner, I wish to make the Empire and the kingdom of Altus as an ally officially.
That way, the king of the Desert won't dare to touch the trade route that's currently in the middle of construction. That route is important because it connects the Empire to the world. Virtra noticed how nervous I am going to dinner. If only Celestia's here. It won't be a problem to talk to the king of Altus.
