Chapter 35 | One Night Only

ELPIS'S POV

"Elpis, Ragnar sent you a letter. Here." I watched as the owl landed on Virtra's shoulder while giving me a look.

"That bird hates me," I commented as I took the letter.

As I read through the piece of paper, I noticed a few things that shouldn't be happening. First, why did the Desert King decided to make a move now? Second, why did he aimed the palace instead of the capital? Something is not right.

"Should I send Bella back? We have a few more things to do here in Altus. Or should I be the one going home and deal with this matter? It's your call, Elpis." It is my call, but I don't know what should I do. If I sent Bella home, I can't reintroduce her to society. But if Virtra went back, the people would think that I abandon my legal wife for the concubines.

"If I may, your highnesses. I would like to volunteer myself. I can handle the matter in the palace if you give me your permission to leave." The noble consort suddenly volunteered herself.

But she is not well.

"If her majesty worried about my condition, fear not. I may lose the use of my eyes, but I can still use other parts of my body. I'll make sure that the matter will be solved as soon as possible." I turned to my wife, who has no objection.

"If Grace herself has confidence in her ability, then let her be. Even in her current state, she is still the noble consort. No one can change that. We can ask the consorts you accompany her home. Once everything settles here, we can follow suit. Remember that the children are at the palace, defenceless. If the Desert King hired such skilled assassins, even the Black Knight wouldn't be able to stop them from harming our children. At least with the noble consort present, she can immobilise the imperial knight." Virtra has a point.

The imperial knight will only heed those who carried my official seal. And those who had those seal are my wife, Bella and Grace.

"I permit you to go home and solve the matter. But please, be careful, Grace." The noble consort nodded before she excuses herself together with her maids.

"Virtra, I've honed enough blades for me to use in my aid. What if I made the wrong choice again? It's one thing about the empress dowager, but it's another with the Desert King. What if they found a way to entered the palace even with our knights protecting the palace? They decided to aim the palace for a reason." Virtra suddenly removes my top before pushing me onto the bed.

"Then we shall use those honed blades to protect what we care the most. Elpis, what's the use of all the concubines you've chosen to be under your command? Use them now; don't worry about their well being. You established a functioning court from your enemies blood. You've killed countless of officials, ministers and even fake concubines just to be the person you are today. And as your wife, I'm only acting as your advisor." Nonsense! She's more than my advisor.

Virtra slowly crawls on top of me while wearing only her inner-wear.

"Advisor? Virtra, you're more than that. You're my finest blade among my concubines. With you standing above them all, people fear you while you stand by my side. They know how vicious you can be and how you would do anything for me." I forced myself to kiss her luscious lips, but she pushed me down onto the bed even harder.

"My dear wife, just remember that every blade has their time limit. You gave me what I desired, but we have yet to feel the ultimate happiness." I grabbed hold of her waist and pushed her to the side. With a smile on my face, I climbed on top of her.

Virtra was struggling to be free, but I am stronger. Who does she think she is?!

"The ultimate happiness?!" She was about to hit me, but I grabbed both of her arms and placed it above her head before holding it down with my left hand while my right grabbed her chin.
