THIRD PERSON POV
Elpis immediately went to Grace's chamber after the noble consort awakened from her slumber. When Elpis entered the noble consort's room, Grace was sitting on her bed with a glass of water in her hands.
"Is that you Elpis?" Grace asked.
"Yes. How have you been?" Elpis went to sit on the bed before kissing Grace on her cheek.
"I'm okay. At least I'm still alive." Grace took a sip of her water before handed Elpis the glass.
"This is all so new to me. I can't see anything, but I can hear better than I ever did before. It's surreal." Elpis couldn't help but feel guilty for what happened to her noble consort.
"I have failed you. I supposed to protect you, but I didn't. I'm sorry, Grace. I should have been there to help, but I didn't." Grace shook her head.
"What happened to me wasn't your fault. I was careless. Elpis, I've become someone who has no advantage and of no use for you. I accept any punishment or banishment if that's what you want. Whatever it is, I will accept it." Grace smiled.
"Why would I do such a thing to you? I only need one noble consort. Grace, you may be lost the use of your eyes, your legs, but it doesn't mean that you have lost the ability to live. Do you think I would be able to live knowing you're suffering out there? I promised to take care of you and that exactly what I shall do." Elpis closed her eyes as she placed her forehead at Grace's.
"No one can replace my noble consort. There might be a lot of beauties out there, but there is only one woman named Grace. Every single one of my concubines has the special charms that only they possessed. I've chosen you to be mine, and only death could separate us. I'm sorry, Grace, but you have to stay by my side till we grow old together." Grace chuckled.
"You should go to court now. I shouldn't keep you away from your work. But, before you go, I need to know something. What happened to Velora and her husband?" Elpis pulled away while she placed Grace's hair behind her ears.
"Velora killed Virtacus herself. Virtra spared her life because the kingdom of the North needs its queen. In exchange for her life, she has no choice but to be our puppet. As of now, the North belongs to the Empire, and queen Velora is working for us now. Once you're well enough, I will give you the authority to do whatever you wish to the North. Their queen did hurt you." Grace shook her head.
"Her people shouldn't suffer because of what their queen's. Just let the people of the North free." Elpis smiled.
"I don't want to leave you alone, Grace. But I have court duties to do." Grace pushed Elpis away.
"No! Never neglect your duties. The people of the Empire needs you!" Elpis sighed.
"I'll be back. Wait for me." Grace nodded. She waited until the door closes then she revealed what she truly felt about herself.
"What kind of noble consort who can't even see?! I can't even walk nor do things on my own! I'm useless!" Grace finally let her tears fall on her cheek.
"Useless? It doesn't matter if you can't see or you can't use your legs, my dear. Ask yourself, what or who do you care the most? The answer to that question shall be the reason for you to live."
Grace looked up when she heard an unfamiliar voice.
"Who are you? You're not one of my sisters. I know their voice well. Are you the servants?" Grace asked.
"I used to live in the palace. Open your heart, and you shall see me standing here, right in front of you."
Grace was confused.
