Chapter 20 | "I was just following orders!"

IMPERIAL CONSORT VIRTRA'S POV

"Show some respect to the imperial consort, criminal!" I watched as the shadow guard forced the trader to kneel in front of me. This man scoffed at me when he looked up to face me.

"So this is the infamous imperial consort? Your name is quite famous in the underworld. If only I knew that you are this beautiful, I would have put on my best clothes." What a smooth talker. The shadow guard took this as an insult and slapped the trader across the face.

"Who gave you the right to talked to the imperial consort like that? Do you have a death wish?" I raised my hand. I need him alive. If I let the shadow guard continue to hit him every time he made some comments about me, he'll be dead by then.

"You were caught right-handed with the goods from the imperial palace. Do you plead guilty?" I asked. The trader smiled before shaking his head.

"I was only selling what was given to me by my supplier. I have no idea where did my goods originated from, so it's not my fault. Your highness, you should capture the ones who sold it to me." What a cunning little bastard. This man knew how twisted my words and used it against me.

"If I told you that your supplier is here, will you cooperate with me? You see, the owner of this palace doesn't like it when her things were not in their original place. Luckily, she went to another village at the moment. What say you? Will you cooperate?" His eyes twitched, knowing that the young minister is now in my custody.

"You're lying through your teeth," he thought I was lying? I asked the shadow guard to bring forth the young minister. The trader was shocked to see the young minister bound and beaten half to death.

"I don't know how to play games because I rarely played any. If you think you can continue being playful with me, you thought wrong. I'm a straightforward person, dear good sir. Just tell me who do you work for, and maybe I'll spare your life." When I noticed that he's not going to cooperate with me, I turned around and faced the shadow guard.

"Give me a bottle of that poison. That should help this traitor to confess." The shadow guard presented me with a bottle of Bella's concoction.

"Be a good boy and open your mouth." He refused to open his mouth.

"Then, tell me the name of the person you worked for!" The shadow guards were forcing him to open his mouth when he suddenly screamed out the name of my sworn enemy.

"VIRTACUS! IM WORKING FOR VIRTACUS!" I froze after I heard that forsaken name. It's impossible. There is no way that that man still alive. There is just no way!

"Release him!" I commanded before grabbing him by the collar of his shirt and forced him to face me.

"Tell me the truth. Who do you work for?" His expression showed how horrified he was seeing me like this.

"Virtacus. I'm working for Virtacus. I swear! I'm telling the truth here!" I released his collar before stumbling back. Just hearing his name, my knees getting weaker by the second. If the shadow guard didn't grab my body, I would have hurt myself.

"Imperial consort, are you okay? Someone! Called for the noble consort! Now!" I'm losing consciousness. I can't believe that that man is alive!

I saw Elpis killed him myself! He was dead! DEAD!

*A few hours later*

"Virtra?"

When I opened my eyes, the first person I saw was Grace. I have fainted, am I? I never thought that hearing that person's name has total control over my body.
