Chapter 29 | Altus

THIRD PERSON POV

"Your majesty, is there something troubling you? I, your husband noticed that you'd been distance. Did I, your husband, do something to anger you?" Eudora shakes her head.

"Last night, I dream about my late sister and her husband. She said that I need to help my niece. The problem is, I have never even met my niece after what I did to her when she was a baby. But I promised my late sister that I will help her whenever she needs me. What should I do, dear husband?" Eudora sighed.

"I think you should listen to your late sister's words. Even if it's just a dream, it is a warning. It's hard for the dead to come to someone's dream. Something must've awakened the Heaven. That is why your late sister spirit decided to warn you to help her daughter." Eudora sighed yet again.

"I'm curious about something, my dear wife. Why did you never show yourself to your niece?" Eudora turned to face her husband.

"I nearly hugged her to death when she was just a day old. Since that moment on, I'm scared of even showing myself to her." Eudora's husband was speechless. He wants to laugh, but he knows that's a bad idea.

"How can that be? We had six amazing children, and you've been nothing but a gentle mother to them." Eudora shakes her head.

"That was different. When I first met my niece, I was young, and I had trouble controlling my strength. Even if I wish to meet my niece, how am I supposed to explain to our children that the shadow empress of the Empire is related to me? They knew me as for ruthless general who managed to seduce the king. They have no idea that I was a royal princess of the old kingdom." Eudora's husband placed a hand on his wife's side.

"My queen, the kingdom of Altus, is just the second strongest in comparison with the Empire. Elpis's name is well known even on this plain. I'm sure they will be happy to know that the queen is related to the strongest warrior in this world. I've heard about her exploitation in the war against several kingdoms. Her tactics were formidable!" The king and queen were surprised when someone suddenly barged into their chamber.

"Is it true, mother, father?!" It's their firstborn son and also the heir to the throne of Altus.

"Princess general Elpis is my cousin?!" Eudora nodded.

"That is true. Elpis is the daughter of your aunt, my older sister. Why are you here? You didn't even knock before you enter your parent's chamber! What if we were indecent?!" The prince then realised what he had done. He immediately apologises to his parents.

"Please forgive this son, mother. I was about to knock, but when I heard that I am related to the famous princess general, I can't contain myself from the excitement." Eudora forgives her son.

"Tell me the reason why you're here." The first prince looked up to his parents.

"Your son, I and my brothers and sisters have completed the task that you gave to us. The culprit is now waiting for the king and queen's judgement. With every accusation, your son, I and my brothers and sisters had provided evidence to prove their wrongdoing." Eudora gave the king a nod before they went to the throne room.

As they entered, everyone bows their head to respect the rulers of Altus.

"Have you forgotten that this woman is my wife, the queen? Who gave you the right to disrespect the queen? My father was too kind to your family. He entrusted such an important task to people who don't even know how to respect their superior. Are you tired of living?" The king glared at the kneeling officials.

"Your highness, let me remind you that the queen was from an unknown origin. A brute woman like her aren't fit to be the queen of Altus. We have told you many times that she's not compatible to be your wife." Eudora has been enduring such treatment from the elders for many years now.
