Mason POV:
I woke up feeling a little hazy and I felt like I was going to puke. I heard beeping around me but I wasn't sure what it was. I felt something on my arm but when I looked.. it scared me for a second. It was only an IV. Next to me on my right was a table with some water and flowers. On my left was the door out to what looked like a hall, and a closed door with what I guessed was a bathroom. I tried to sit up.. but I fell back down and sank into my pillows.I felt something tucked under my thigh. A little remote with a button that said "Call Nurse," I pressed the little red button with a cross on it and my room started beeping. Within a few seconds.. a small petite brunette woman appeared next to my bed.
"Oh. You're awake. You've been asleep for quite awhile now.. I'm not surprised with after what had happened." The nurse says as she starts straightening out stuff on my side table.
"How long have I been asleep?? What happened?" I asked. I couldn't even remember why I was here.
"You've been in a coma for about 2 weeks now. You were in a really bad car accident. Don't you remember? That's why you have a broken leg." The nurse replies. She acts like its nothing. I peer down at my leg. Sure enough, There was a cast covering every crevasse of my leg.
"MIA!" I exclaim. I shot up in my bed and frantically look around.
"Who? Calm down Mr. Yeller.. You will upset yourself and the doctor would rather you stay calm and collected for awhile. You were in critical condition 2 weeks ago. Your still not in good shape. Relax. Now what did you say?" The nurse looks at me with big beady eyes.
"Mia. The girl. What happened to the girl?" My eyes got wide as flashbacks from the accident raced through my mind.
"Is that her name? There was a teenage girl in the accident with you.. and nobody has been able to identify her. Brown hair? Blue eyes?" She asks as she inches closer to me.
"Yes. Yes. Her name is Mia. I'm not sure the last name. All I want to know is if she's okay." I say trying to sit up. The nurse pushes me back down into my bed.
"Relax. She isn't okay.. but she is in stable condition. She's been in a coma for as long as you have and she hasn't woken up yet. As for you being the only one who can identify her.. Even if we release you.. You will have to stay until she wakes up." The nurse says fixing my blankets around me.
"Can I see her?" I ask pleadingly.
"Maybe when we release you. As for now you need to rest. It's about the only thing that will help. I will go get you fresh water and some Morphine to ease the pain in your leg and you had a minor concussion that we need to deal with." The nurse says as she walks out of the room.
"Concussion? Man the accident must have been bad. MY CAR! What happened to my car?" I yell sitting up again. The nurse runs to my side and puts me back down. I think she is frustrated right now.
"Listen. The only way you will get better is if you rest. I can not tell you information about your car until you rest up. The doctor said you may see pictures of the damage when you rest and your symptoms for a concussion are fuzzy and basically gone. We can not be held responsible for making your concussion any worse than it already is." She says. "Stay put. I will be back in about 5 minutes." The nurse adds giving me the evil eye. As she walks out a man approaches her and they talk and they keep glancing in here every few minutes. Probably the nurse telling the doctor I am "refusing treatment and that I need bed straps to keep this animal locked up." I let out a little laugh and my head has a sudden quick pound and goes away quickly. Guess the dumb nurse was right about me having a concussion. I can't help but think about Mia. I hope she's okay. I can't believe her parents haven't identified her yet. Where are they? I seriously hope Mia is okay though. I mean what if she presses charges? It was my fault. The entire accident was my fault. I looked when I shouldn't have. So stupid. I wanted to get to know her. I mean.. She seemed really sweet. When I first met the sober Mia.. She seemed like someone I would chill with anyway.
The thought of Mia didn't leave my mind even when the nurse came back.
"Here. Take these. It will help with your pain. Is there anything I can get you? Are you cold? Need to use the bathroom? You have been using a tray for a bathroom the last 2 weeks." The nurse says gesturing down there.
I sit up a little bit and look and sure enough.. a yellow tray.
"Was that a trick question or will you actually let me use the bathroom?" I say with a very sarcastic tone.
"You can actually go to the bathroom. Would you like some assistance?" She asks as her voice gets a little higher.
"No thanks. I'm good. No help from you anyway." I say rudely. I can already tell she doesn't like me for no reason anyway so I might as well give her a reason. I sit up a little bit and try to readjust myself before I get dizzy. Finally I catch my sight again and I swing my legs over the bed. Broken leg first. Good leg after. I examine my arms as I notice bruises and patches of bandages. I have no clue what is under them but I'm not sure I want too. I feel pain shoot through my back as I finally stand up on my good foot, leaving my bad leg hanging in the air. "Would you please get me some damn crutches? God you can't even do your job right. I have a broken foot. Do you want it to get worse and have me report you? I don't think so. Find me some damn crutches."I exclaim. I'm not normally that mean.. but seriously. She just rolled her eyes and strolled off into the hall. I could hear her flipping out on some people and yelling but finally after she took her sweet ass time, returned with crutches. "God damn. Thank you. Next time be prepared and know what you are doing." I say as I hobble to the bathroom. I am actually in a lot of pain. I need to take the Morphine she brought me. Hopefully while I am in the bathroom she doesn't switch the pills and drug me.
Finally after I get my business done and hobble back onto my bed setting my crutches aside, I feel a little sense of relief. I gulp the water along with the morphine as the nurse studied closely to make sure I swallowed them.
"There is a remote here. The tv is up there and if you need anything.. Press the button. Oh and you have visitors. Your mother?" She says pointing at everything and then suddenly remembering the most important news out of all of what she said.
"Send her in then I guess." I said shrugging.
