They followed them here.
Aphira pressed against her dragon, tears pulling at her vision. What was she supposed to do now?
"Aphira! Wait!" Whip's desperate cry sounded behind her. "Come on Blackout. Let's try to shove them back to where they came from." Kiara murmured. Blackout burbled and shot a plasma blast. She slid through it, then turned and shot past Whip and his dragon, who had been in pursuit.
"Get them!" Ryker's gruff voice yelled. The Singetail that Whip was riding on let out a roar of confusion and faltered.
And then, as if this couldn't get any worse, it did, and the original Riders showed up, Astrid in the lead.
Ryker said they were tracker dragons - they must've tracked us here. Aphira's insides felt all twisted as she spotted a light blue dragon and a flaming red one toward the back, Father beside them.
"What...the..." Ryker looked up in confusion. Blackout roared in surprise as a red shape suddenly flashed in front of her. She dove and twisted away from the Singetail's fireball, duck underneath the fire of the huge-winged dragon, spiraled up and out of the way of the light blue dragon's frost, and turned so sharply away from the Nadder that her tail smacked her face.
"Aaaaaaaaah!" Ac's voice cut through the air. "Help!" Heather, on a silvery dragon, was quick to dart to her daughter's side.
Blackout got there first.
Blackout fired at the silvery dragon, and she roared in response.
"Sir, there are too many of them, and they're cutting our ranks to bits!" Jay yelled from below. Ryker grunted. "Retreat!" He yelled. "Retreat!" Blackout glanced up at Aphira. "Retreat." She echoed quietly to her dragon, who roared one last time at the others and dove away.
"Wait! Aphira!" Whip cried. The flaming dragon roared at the same time. The all-black one, all-white one, and the mostly-white and mostly-black dragon roared after Blackout, but she roared sadly back in response and went after the Hunters quickly packed ships.
They had been sailing for a few hours when a storm that had been chasing the Hunters rolled over them, causing a panic. "Blackout!" Aphira cried. The Lunawatcher had been getting a break from flying down below, but now she was fully awake, running up to the top deck. "Come on, girl!" Aphira cried.
Blackout's head shot up with a growl as a screech split through the air. Suddenly, silver dragons dove toward the ship, roaring as their tails sliced through the masts. Blackout blasted plasma at them, shooting a couple down, but there were so many of them...
Aphira mounted Blackout, thinking fast. Blackout took to the sky and let out an angry roar, making all of the Razorwhips whip toward her with low growls and narrowed green and purple eyes.
One Razorwhip let out a screech and flapped ahead of the rest. Blackout's eyes widened for a moment, then she shook her head and roared back. This went on for a while, until the Razorwhips on the deck broke free, and the flock continued onwards.
Aphira sighed, relaxing as she patted her dragon's neck. "Good job, Blackout." She murmured. "Good job."
