"Look at her she's so pathetic, she looks like she has swallowed a balloon."
"Have you heard, her mom died a couple of years ago, I'd say its sad but honestly I think that she did it on purpose, so that she could get away from her."
That's all I hear as I walk in the classroom of my 3rd grade English class. Why do they hate me so much? What have I done to make them say all these things?
I feel the hot tears streaming down my face burning me with every drop, as the comments progress.
"You're such a loner, you don't even have any friends, anyway who would want to be friends with you?"
"She lives beside me and I can always hear her dad shouting at her. My mom and dad say that he's a dangerous man and that I should stay away from her and her dad."
"Please stop, please just stop!" I plead for them to stop but they don't listen.
I have to get out of here, away from them.
I run down the hall and down the steps of the school. I run to our secret place, knowing that no one can find me there apart from Dylan.
I was crying for ages, so long that my eyes felt like they weighed tons and were hard to keep open.
Not long after, Dylan found me. He came and sat next to me and hugged me so hard that I felt all the oxygen escape my lungs.
"What happened? Who made you cry Lily?" Dylan asked in a quiet barely audible voice.
"Nobody, it's nothing. I'm okay now, you're here," I reassure him forcing a smile on my face.
"I know that look Lily, you're not okay, what happened?"
He is the only one who can see right through me, the only one that knows what I'm feeling even if I try my hardest not to show it.
"They talked about my mom's death and how it was my fault, that she did it on purpose and I guess somewhere deep inside I'm starting to believe that it's true," I reply with tears flowing down my cheeks.
"That's not true Lily, none of it is. What happened to your mom was an accident, she loved you with all of her heart, as much as I love you. Never forget that, I'll always be here for you no matter what. I'm not going anywhere, I'm never going to leave you Lily. I promise."
That was one of the fondest memories I have of Dylan as well as one of the worst. He promised me that he would never leave me, but he did, I guess he broke his promise.
My painful track of memories are interrupted by a loud bang, the bang is caused by a book being dropped on my desk by Mr Stephenson.
"Young lady are you with us this morning or are you in your own little world?" Mr Stephenson asked in a harsh tone and the class started to snigger.
"I..uh..Yes sir," I replied quietly not being able to speak properly due to the big lump that had formed in my throat.
"Well then, It's nice having you with us this morning." he said as he walked to the front of the class and wrote the task down on the board.
The board reads for us to pair up and start answering the questions in the booklet provided and what we don't complete in class is set as an assignment that must be completed in pairs.
"Now class, find a partner sensibly unless you want me to put you in pairs." By the time that Mr Stephenson finished the sentence everyone was paired up apart from me.
