Chapter 11: Confessions

Irene's POV

Well that was... eventful. I'm sure Y/n doesn't want me to say anything about what happened but... if you can keep a secret?

I'm trusting you not to tell anyone, so don't, please! Okay...

Yeri left the room like a queen. She was taking no messing around with any vocal coaches. After that, there was no decision to be made. A break was called. While she's not the best vocalist in Red Velvet, Y/n has a really different voice, and luvies will love her. In about 15 minutes, Yeri slipped in, Y/n close to her, holding Yeri's hand in one of her own and what looked like a ripped flannel in the other. I had heard from Yeri that Y/n sometimes went a little out of character but this was a little much. She didn't look like she'd been crying at all, and her face was expressionless, emotionless. Like she was somewhere else.

Later that evening, when we returned home, Y/n went up to her room and didn't come out for a while. We were all sat around the table, eating jokbal when Y/n suddenly spoke up.

"Umm, I have something to confess." she said shyly, looking at Yeri for reassurance. Yeri nodded and she continued. "It's something I should have told you all from the very start. I might not be staying in Red Velvet if I'm not popular with fans."

There was an uneasy silence.

"Someone please say something..."

It was a voice almost in a whisper. I decided to be the adult in the room and speak.

"You know they'll love you, right?" I said, taking her hands. "And even if they don't, you're so talented and lovable that it's impossible not to! We'll always be your fans, not as Red Velvet but as Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, Joy and Yeri. You've not been here long but we're already head-over-heels in love with you, Y/n. Don't you forget that."

She smiled and the cute little dimple in her cheek appeared. I knew I'd done the right thing.

"Thanks, Irene unnie," she said.

"Hey, it's late. We should all go to bed. Busy day ahead of us tomorrow!" said Wendy, collecting our plates to take to the kitchen.

Joy yawned and pouted, looking so adorable in her polar bear onesie.

"I wanted to stay up late!" she grumbled, but we knew she was tired.

"Come on, unnie," whispered Y/n, helping her up the stairs. "Let's go to bed."

I got up and wandered to mine and Yeri's room. It was a little dark but I didn't mind. I climbed into bed after brushing my teeth and snuggled beneath the blankets. I don't remember falling asleep but I do remember waking up at half past two. That's when I decided to tell you all about it. I just feel like talking. So anyway...

Y/n's POV

I padded over to Yeri and Irene's room. It was a bit dark and I was very scared but I had to thank her. I gently pushed open the door and then I heard something. Talking. At first, I thought I was imagining it but I stopped and listened. There it was again. It was coming from Irene's bed. Who'd have thought Irene sleeptalked? But I saw the glare of her phone screen and she jumped when she noticed me.

"Y/n! What are you doing here?" she gasped trying to hide her phone.

"I-I'm sorry! I just felt... lonely."

"Come here then."

I burrowed into her nice warm duvet and she put her phone away.

"Who were you calling?"

"No one. Anyway, that's none of your... Sorry. I need some time to relax."

We lay there for a while, doing nothing. Since I became an Idol, I've often had these kind of moments, where I just sit down and don't even think. It's calming.

"So... do you wanna play some video games?"

I paused. Irene didn't seem like the sort of person that would play a lot of games.

"Sure."
