Chapter 15: Behind The Scenes...

Manager's POV

She was late. Again. Why could she never be on time? Maybe she deserved what happened to her... No, she was proving popular in the group, but had the smallest following. If she didn't improve she'd have to leave. And there goes her contract. A timid knock on the door snapped me back to reality and out of my daydream.

"Enter."

"Sorry, Manager Kim. You wanted to see me?"

Ah. Here she was at last. Y/n L/n. The hole in Red Velvet, so to speak. I examined her attire. It was basic and boring, not something most of our girl group members would wear. At least it made her different.

"You're late."

"Yes, Manager Kim. I'm sorry. I won't be again."

She looked nervous, no way for an idol to be. I wondered why PD Nim favoured her so much to add her.

"Take a seat. We're here to discuss your place in the group."

She paled.

"Yes, Manager Kim."

"As you know you will be removed from the group if seen fit. So..."

"I will work hard."

"Not only that, L/n. I expect to see your fanbase grow significantly in the next month. Do what you have to do. Vlives, You tube, we'll even set you up with some modelling, but if you don't succeed..."

"I know. I will leave the group."

"Correct. And you will tell Reveluvs that it is voluntary. For mental health or something kids suffer from these days."

"What! But-"

"It was in your contract. You have to. Now, if there's nothing else."

She walked slowly from her seat to the door, turning back only once. A look of furiousity on her face, I knew I had done the right thing.

Y/n's POV

I couldn't believe what I had just heard. She was talking about my fanbase like it was all just numbers, not real people who... cared about me. It was true, my following was smaller than the other members, but I was the newest and still had a lot to prove. I couldn't make luvies choose me over my members. I know I wouldn't switch.

I decided to check the comments on our latest music video. It was always uplifting to see what support luvies left there. As I was taking out my phone, Irene came out of the training room.

"Y/n-yah! What are you doing?"

I told her and she sat down next to me on the bench. I scrolled down to the comments section, then remembered that you tube had conveniently moved it to the top and had to scroll all the way back up again. We began to read the messages luvies sent.

I looked at Irene and smiled. It was nice knowing we were loved by people across the world. I scrolled down a little more and froze.

Irene snatched my phone. "Don't take it personally. They're trolls and they're just jealous of you."

"It's true. Everything they say about me is true. I'll never be good enough for Red Velvet. I should have never left home to become an idol!"

"Stop this right now! Y/n-yah! Look at me. You're perfect, and if they can't see that, they're in a bad place."

"But how am I ever going to get enough supporters in my fanbase to stay in Red Velvet if everyone hates me?!"

"Are you ignoring all the first comments? Wow you really can be stupid sometimes."

"Hey!" I giggled, calming down. "I'm just worried. Manager Kim has it in for me, and it's really stressing me out."

"Don't even worry about it. She acts like she has so much power when she's really just a glorified assistant."

"Huh. I guess that works out."

"We should get going. It's getting dark out."

We smiled at each other and linked arms to go. I felt, at last, that I had a real connection with someone. With Red Velvet. No matter what, they'd be here for me, and I'd stay with them.
