Chapter 12: Anticipation

Irene's POV

So here we were: 4 a.m. video game time. I turned the Nintendo Wii on, and connected the controllers. Y/n was sitting on the floor in her grey dressing gown that had a hood with rabbit ears on. I wondered if she had chosen it herself.

We decided to play a round of Mario Kart, and Y/n kept getting the controls mixed up. After a few minutes she got better. Too much better. I lost a humiliating defeat: four firsts for her and my places ranging from third to seventh.

"No! How did you-?"

She giggled, and I couldn't be mad at her. I smiled, but thought to myself - I couldn't lose this time.

The round started with Y/n in first and me in second. The Mario Kart gods must have been on my side. Just before the last lap ended, a blue shell happened to come into my possession. Oh, Y/n. You really didn't know what was coming for you.

"What! No, no, no, no, no! Fifth!" she wailed, and I only felt a little bad.

"Who sent that thing?"

"Why you looking at me?"

"Unnie!"

And she couldn't say no after that. "One more round!" she kept saying, after I beat her every time. I have to admit, I didn't notice how much noise we were making.

"Hey, you guys," Joy said sleepily, coming down the stairs. "I didn't know you were having a party."

"Sorry!" said Y/n, and went back up with her.

Y/n's POV

I felt bad that we had woken Joy up so I went back up to our room with her. When we got up there, I saw the time.

"How is it half past seven?" I cried out, then clasped my hands over my mouth. "Sorry!"

"That's okay," said Joy, and started brushing her hair out. "Hey, can you help me with this?"

I stood behind her, and took the brush. It was cute, mint green with gems on the back. I brushed it through her long hair, and she closed her eyes.

"What are we doing today?" I asked, trying to keep the silence at bay.

"We recorded last week, so we'll probably be shooting the music video sometime this week. I'll check my phone."

After a brief pause, she let out an excited squeal. "Y/n! It's today!"

"Today?"

"Yes! We have to get ready! The shoot's not until this evening but we have to start now!"

Honestly, I was a bit taken aback at the sudden announcement. I'd expected at least a week.

"What do we do?"

"Oh, Y/n! You haven't experienced the joys of shooting a music video yet, have you? But don't you worry! This unnie will help you!"

I finished brushing Joy's hair and then she sat me down on her bed so that we could seriously discuss which outfit to wear.

"Are you sure this is necessary?" I asked. "We're going to have our hair and makeup done there -and we'll be given totally different clothes!"

"Come on, Y/n!" she said. "Let's have some fun, even if it won't last."

Wendy's POV

It was kind of late so I woke up Seulgi. Everyone likes to do something with their time before a music video shoot. Seulgi went to put a face mask on so I knocked on Joy and Y/n's door. I was surprised to see they were awake already but they quietened when they realised I was there.

"Why so secretive?" I asked, smiling.

"No reason." said Joy, the same time as Y/n said, "we're just preparing."

Joy shot Y/n a death glare, though I could tell she didn't mean it.

"Wendy unnie will judge mee," wailed Joy.

I sighed and left them to it. Peeking around the door next to their room, I was surprised to see Irene wasn't in her bed. Yeri was sound asleep, so I left her to it, and tip-toed downstairs, hoping to find Irene.

"Joohyun?" I called softly, then louder when she didn't reply.

No answer, but I saw a hand hanging off the couch. When I walked closer, I could see that she was sleeping, with a Wii controller in one hand and her mouth open. I resisted the urge to wake her in the most irritating way possible and left her be.

Irene's POV

When I woke up, I saw Wendy watching me and Y/n and Joy discussing something in hushed tones. As she saw I had woken up, she quickly looked away, then back as if nothing had happened. Wendy, she thinks she is so smooth, but she really isnt (I'm sorry Wendy I love youu <33).

"What's going on?" I murmured, still half asleep.

"Just so you know, we're shooting for our mv tonight." Wendy said.

"Oh about time too."

Y/n's POV

Irene's reaction sort of startled me. She said it so matter-of-factly, taking it all in her stride. For the rest of the day until seven o clock we all did our separate things, and didn't talk talk much at all. I didn't realise how nervous I was until the time came for us to go.
