I really didn't want to lie to him

I really didn't want to lie to him. I felt as if he already knew I was being deceitful, and that thought weighed heavily on me. I could sense his anger, and it tore me apart.

I sat on the bed, my tears flowing uncontrollably. He had been treating me so kindly, and here I was, deceiving him. I felt like a terrible mate.

Tonight, I resolved to tell him the truth about what had happened to me and Austin. I just prayed with all my heart that he wouldn't abandon me once he knew everything. I had genuine feelings for Leon, and his presence never failed to make my heart flutter.

I left the room and made my way to the kitchen, where Julie, the one who helped prepare our meals, had become one of my closest friends during my stay.

"Luna, your lunch is ready. I made spaghetti bolognese, one of my specialties. I hope you enjoy it. I'll take my leave now."

"Thank you," I replied as I took a bite of the spaghetti. It was delicious, and I couldn't help but savor it. "It's... really good," I added with a smile.

She returned my smile before departing. I noticed Leon's untouched lunch and decided that since he seemed too busy to eat, I would bring it to his office in an attempt to make amends.

Navigating the unfamiliar halls with the help of a few guards, I finally reached his office. The sight that greeted me left me awestruck. The office was vast, its opulent décor bathed in rich red velvet, exuding an air of grandeur akin to a castle. I hadn't expected his office to mirror the splendor of his home.

John spotted me instantly and directed me to the Alpha's room. I took a deep breath and knocked on the door. "Enter," I heard his voice respond from inside.

I entered slowly and found Leon surrounded by a sea of scattered papers on his desk, looking exhausted but still undeniably handsome. He glanced up as I approached, and I walked to his desk, placing his lunch before him.

"You didn't come back for lunch, and I didn't want you to go hungry, so I brought it here," I mumbled, my voice quivering.

"Thank you, little one," he replied with a hint of a smile. I couldn't tell if he was still upset with me, but I was determined to make things right.

"I want to tell you... the truth about what... happened to me," I said as he began eating his lunch.

His head snapped up instantly, and he came over, placing his hand on my leg. I took it as a sign that he was ready to listen, so I began recounting my story.

"I found my previous mate, Austin, at the Mating Day. He was really kind to me, and I fell in love with him instantly," I began.

A low growl rumbled from Leon, but I continued. "He claimed me as his mate, and I returned to his pack that day. At first, everything was fine between us, but on the second day, he insisted on marking me."

I swallowed hard, my throat tightening with the painful memories flooding back. Leon noticed my tension and drew me closer, enveloping me in his scent.

"I wasn't ready, so I rejected him, and from that moment, he became cold. Everything I did, he'd punch me in the stomach, leaving those scars," I confessed, tears streaming down my face.

Leon's anger flared as he tightened his grip on me, wiping away my tears with his thumb. "I'd never do that to you, Charlotte. I'll treat you like the princess you deserve to be treated. I'll never hurt you," he promised, his words offering me solace. I hugged him tightly, overwhelmed by his comforting presence.

"Can you promise me that you won't tell anyone about this, and please don't... try to find him?" I pleaded with all my heart.

He sighed, clearly torn between seeking justice and my safety. I knew the risks to my parents if he pursued Austin.

"Alright," he finally replied.

We sat together for a while before we walked hand in hand back to his house. Dinner was already laid out on the table, a scrumptious meal of steak with garlic bread. We immediately began to eat, but then Leon dropped a bombshell.

"Charlotte, the Luna ceremony will take place tomorrow."

I was so shocked that my fork slipped from my hand and clattered onto the floor. Was I truly ready to become a Luna? Could I effectively lead the pack? Was I even good enough for the role?
