In a deep and husky voice, he commanded, "Move."
Startled, I nearly jumped out of my seat. Gazing out the window, I realized we had arrived.
I had been so awestruck by the mansion-like house that I had momentarily forgotten to move, and Leon's lingering gaze reminded me of my lapse.
"Oh, right," I mumbled, hurriedly exiting the car and trailing behind him. The house was grand, and I didn't want to risk getting lost in its labyrinthine halls.
As we ventured further into the mansion, I couldn't help but notice the immaculate cleanliness that pervaded every nook and cranny. Not a speck of dust marred the pristine surroundings, and there wasn't a messy room in sight.
Amidst my overwhelming thoughts, I couldn't help but wonder if Leon ever felt lonely in this grand abode.
My musings were interrupted by Leon's instructions. "Your room is at the end of the hall, mine is beside it," he stated matter-of-factly. My hopes of sharing a room with him were dashed, leaving me with mixed feelings.
Wait, no. What had I been thinking? What if he had ulterior motives for wanting to share a room?
After unpacking and changing my clothes, I emerged from my room to find Leon in the living room, wearing a blue shirt that accentuated his muscular physique. He looked strikingly handsome, and I couldn't help but steal glances at him, despite his intimidating demeanor.
If he weren't so fierce, I imagined that all the she-wolves would be practically swooning over him, much like I was doing now.
Caught in the act, I quickly averted my gaze, feeling my cheeks flush with embarrassment.
"We're going to introduce you to the pack," he informed me, his expression devoid of emotion.
I didn't want to. Meeting everyone meant being subjected to their judgment, and I feared the consequences if I didn't comply with his wishes.
Swallowing my apprehension, I blinked back tears that threatened to well up. I couldn't let him see me cry, lest he react as Austin had.
The pack members seemed friendly enough, but I kept my head down the entire time, flinching and avoiding contact whenever someone tried to approach me.
I was aware that my behavior was puzzling them, but I couldn't bring myself to explain. When they discovered that I was their Luna, they were utterly astounded. After all, who would expect the Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack to have found a mate?
As Leon tended to his pack duties, I was accompanied by his Beta, John. Leon's aloofness and cold stares hurt me deeply, reminding me of Austin's treatment. All I had ever wanted was a caring and understanding mate. Was that too much to ask, Moon Goddess?
Upon our return to Leon's house, exhaustion weighed me down. I climbed the stairs, nearing my door when a strong grip seized my hand, pulling me into Leon's chiseled chest.
A sharp twinge of pain coursed through me, and I winced, the scars from Austin's abuse still far from healed. Desperately, I attempted to hide the pain etched across my face, but I failed. Leon sensed something was wrong.
Austin's threats loomed in my mind. He had vowed to harm my family, and I had no doubt he would carry out those threats.
"Lift up your shirt," Leon demanded with urgency in his voice.
I couldn't allow him to see my scars, especially not now. I was terrified of how he might react. He might reject me, casting me aside like a discarded possession.
Tears welled up in my eyes as I cautiously retreated from Leon. I couldn't let him see this; there was no way.
