My eyes slowly fluttered open, and I found myself connected to an IV drip. My wrists were bandaged, and the once-present silver chains that bound me were gone.

An uncomfortable sensation pricked at me, and I instinctively tried to pull the IV out, but it clung to my hand like glue.

Moments later, John appeared, carrying a bowl of porridge that smelled heavenly. It was unlike the usual dungeon fare.

"Charlotte, please eat this. I want to help you and believe you, but I'm following orders," he said with a regretful smile.

The hierarchical dynamics within the pack meant that even a beta like John had to comply with the alpha's directives. But the question that gnawed at me was whether Leon had visited me after my collapse. Had he been the one to remove the silver chains? I accepted the warm bowl of porridge from John as I inquired, "Did he come to see me when I fainted?"

John hesitated, remaining silent. It seemed that Leon hadn't come to the dungeon to check on the mate who had been wrongfully accused of his mother's murder.

After John left, I was left alone with the silver bars surrounding me, contemplating my situation. Would Leon ever release me? Would I even want to remain with him after all of this?

There is a type of heartbreak that feels like a squashed ice cream melting on a scorching pavement, and then there's the kind that feels like lighting a match, savoring the flame, and leaving behind nothing but ashes.

The memories of the joyful moments with Leon were the fleeting flame, but the rest was ash, scattered by the wind.

The ache of longing for him permeated every fiber of my being, like a cold wind trapped within the chambers of my heart. My mind incessantly composed letters to him during any spare moment.

I had never known that missing someone could consume you entirely, wringing you out like a soaked sponge each day.

I both loathed him for subjecting me to this torment and yearned for him to witness the suffering he had inflicted. To see if guilt stirred within him or if he would release me from this dungeon. Yet, he had not appeared since that fateful moment.

Night descended, but sleep remained elusive. My eyes were heavy, but my mind was acutely awake. The small lamp provided minimal illumination in the dungeon, casting eerie shadows that unnerved me.

Unable to sleep, I decided to leave the lamp on, but the oppressive darkness seemed to close in around me. I couldn't determine the time, but a shadow loomed in the dungeon.

My gaze remained locked on the figure, their silhouette attempting to conceal itself. As they drew nearer, my heart quickened, and I pressed myself against the wall.

Palms sweaty and adrenaline coursing through me, I struggled to think clearly. The approaching shadow stopped a few meters away, and I held my breath.

I shifted towards the wall's far end, though the cramped space limited my movement. My breaths came in rapid bursts, and my body tensed as the shadow continued to advance.

A voice, all too familiar, broke the silence. "Hello, long time no see, Charlotte."

My body trembled, and sweat drenched my skin as I grappled with fear. Austin's face materialized before me, a haunting nightmare.

His lips curled into a sinister smirk as he approached, his fingers touching the silver bars with a sizzling hiss as he grabbed my face.

I attempted to break free from his grasp, but his hold tightened. "You thought you could escape from me, didn't you? Running away was a clever choice, but it doesn't matter. You're coming back with me now," he sneered, his eyes seething with anger.

Fear twisted my insides, causing cramps in my stomach. It dominated my thoughts, pushing everything else aside. Exhaustion washed over me, leaving me drastically weakened.

"Wherever you run, you'll always return to me. Your mate won't come looking for you; after all, he locked you in here and never once visited. There's no escaping me this time," Austin taunted, his words dripping with malice.

well, I'm just going to leave all of you here😳
