In the recesses of my mind, I couldn't help but wonder if Leon had invited Kenzie to this secluded spot before, but that thought quickly receded as I watched the unfolding scene.
Leon gazed at Kenzie, his eyes reflecting surprise and uncertainty. He then shifted his gaze to me, his voice laden with regret. "I truly didn't expect her to come here, Charlotte. I'm so sorry."
There was no need for him to apologize to me. I simply wanted to avoid being mistreated again. I stood there, feeling like a mere spectator in this unexpected encounter.
My primary focus should be preparing for the impending challenge. If Kenzie was here, perhaps it could work to my advantage. I could observe her training and potentially learn tactics to exploit her weaknesses.
Under the scorching sun, I began to sweat slightly, my resolve unshaken. However, my attention was suddenly diverted when I noticed Leon standing in front of Kenzie, holding her shirt. My mind raced with apprehension. Had he taken off her shirt to initiate a make-out session?
I decided to distance myself from the situation. I feared that if Kenzie were to complain to Leon's mother, it might escalate into a messy conflict. With a heavy heart, I retreated, sprinting to a nearby abandoned house where I could unleash the tears welling up in my eyes.
The image of them embracing in only her bra threatened to unleash a torrent of tears. I couldn't bear to watch, and the pain was unbearable.
"Charlotte, where did you go? Tell me where you are. Why did you run away?" Leon's voice entered my mind through the mate bond.
I blocked him out immediately. I didn't want to hear his voice at that moment. Suddenly, my head began to throb painfully as a foreign voice echoed inside my mind, distinct from Leon's.
"I will come for you. Be prepared. He doesn't want you, but I do."
It was undeniably not Leon's voice. My head felt like it was splitting in two, throbbing with an intensity that was unbearable.
Dizziness overcame me, and I collapsed, my head hitting the floor. It felt as if someone had entered my mind using some form of magic and then departed just as abruptly.
As my vision cleared, I noticed two figures at the door of the abandoned house. A voice called out, "Luna, are you alright?"
Strong arms enveloped me as I was lifted off the ground. Leon's worried eyes stared into mine as he held me in a bridal carry. I felt an inexplicable tug at my heart and snuggled closer to him. It was the mate bond, I realized, pulling me towards him.
Following closely behind us was John. I surmised that Leon had asked him to accompany us to find me.
We returned to the same spot where Leon had initiated my training. Kenzie was waiting there.
"John, please help me with some paperwork in my office. I'll join you later," Leon instructed.
John departed, leaving the three of us facing each other. Leon turned to Kenzie and demanded, "Kenzie, explain to Charlotte what just happened."
She sighed before recounting, "I was training and wanted Leon to join me, so I took off my shirt to get his attention. It obviously worked, but he picked up my shirt and ordered me to put it back on immediately. There was a bug behind me, and I told him I'd put my shirt back on if he got rid of the bug, which is why we ended up in a hugging position."
My initial judgment had been hasty. I had falsely accused Leon of infidelity. Ashamed of my mistrust, I turned away and apologized to him. Leon gently lifted my chin, forcing me to meet his gaze, and reassured me, "You don't need to feel this way. We're equals."
Leon then addressed Kenzie, "Please, Kenzie, leave us alone and train elsewhere."
With a snarl, Kenzie agreed, "Fine. But remember, be prepared to lose. I won't go easy on you."
The day had passed, and I hadn't managed to train due to the events that unfolded. It seemed that a daunting challenge awaited me.
school has started and I'm getting really busy.
